The choice of setting was excellent with the society, place and time period. Having this story take place most in 1913 added an element of gothic mystery to it that I really enjoyed. The supporting characters were a shifty bunch that brought surprises and depth to this story. While this is Sleeping Beauty remake, my personal favorite of the fairy tales, there is a bit of Snow White thrown in for good measure.
This first book for me to read by Marina Myles is now a favorite. I can’t wait to read her take on another of the Grimm’s Tales. The author’s note at the end was an added touch that I enjoyed reading too.

But the only illusion in Drago's act is that his magic is smoke and mirrors. Every word of power he speaks is as real as Rose before him, in thrall to his lust and adoration. Drago knows about Rose's curse, that she will die on her next birthday. But the shadowy threat that stalks her hasn't won her yet. If she can trust him, perhaps he can save her too. . .
This is the fourth book in the series and in this story we have a a take on sleeping beauty. While this is the fourth book, this can be read as a stand-alone story.
I have enjoyed this series, but this story was a little harder to get into then the others in the series. I found parts this story that I enjoyed and others left me a little wanting. The story was a little convoluted in places and I found some of Rose's actions a little over dramatic. I loved Drago, I thought he was a great hero. He waits through time to find his true love and then does everything he can to protect her and he is a demon. I did think the ending was particularly interesting wrapping the sleeping beauty myth into the story to save the girl and to have their HEA.
While this was not my favorite in the series, it was a good read.
Drago gives her an Egyptian amulet to protect her, but is he really protecting her or is he manipulating her? Rose's adoptive family thinks he is a monster, he will be her downfall, but will he? Can Drago save her? Or will he get the chance?
Good action, good mystery on who Rose is and if she will survive her birthday. Also, I constantly was questioning who the aunt disguised herself as and if her adoptive family and friends were actually on her side.
Great story, I loved the connection with Sleeping Beauty. I liked the time period (1912-1913), different time period for me to read about. Love scenes were steamy and sensual, great story, and I really want to read all of Marina Myles books based on fairy tales.
