About the authors

Anne Rice was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana, which provided the backdrop for many of her famous novels. She was the author of more than 30 books, including her first novel, Interview with the Vampire, which was published in 1976. It has since gone on to become one of the best-selling novels of all time, and was adapted into a major motion picture starring Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, Kirsten Dunst, and Antonio Banderas. In addition to The Vampire Chronicles, Anne was the author of several other best-selling supernatural series including Mayfair Witches, Queen of the Damned, the Wolf Gift, and Ramses the Damned. Under the pen name A.N. Roquelaure, Anne was the author of the erotic (BDSM) fantasy series, The Sleeping Beauty Trilogy. Under the pen name Anne Rampling she was the author of two erotic novels, Exit to Eden and Belinda. A groundbreaking artist whose work was widely beloved in popular culture, Anne had this to say of her work: "I have always written about outsiders, about outcasts, about those whom others tend to shun or persecute. And it does seem that I write a lot about their interaction with others like them and their struggle to find some community of their own. The supernatural novel is my favorite way of talking about my reality. I see vampires and witches and ghosts as metaphors for the outsider in each of us, the predator in each of us...the lonely one who must grapple day in and day out with cosmic uncertainty."

A.N. Roquelaure is the pseudonym for bestselling author Anne Rice, the author of 25 books. She lives in New Orleans.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 10, 2025Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThe Sleeping Beauty Trilogy by Anne Rice (written under the pseudonym A.N. Roquelaure) is a daring and provocative reimagining of the classic fairy tale, offering an adult twist on the familiar story of Sleeping Beauty. This trilogy is not for the faint of heart, as it delves into themes of power, submission, and sensuality with unflinching honesty.
The trilogy begins with The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty, where Rice takes the reader through a fantastical world where pleasure and pain are intricately tied. The characters are deeply complex, and their journeys are as much about self-discovery as they are about indulgence and submission. Throughout the trilogy, Rice explores themes of dominance and submission, set against a backdrop of richly imaginative, often erotic, storytelling.
Rice’s writing is lush, detailed, and immersive. The world she creates is both beautiful and disturbing, with vivid imagery and intricate character development. Each book takes the reader deeper into the world of fantasy and desire, and while the subject matter is undeniably explicit, Rice manages to balance the darker themes with a sense of beauty and lyricism.
One of the most striking things about The Sleeping Beauty Trilogy is how it challenges traditional notions of romance and explores the boundaries of human sexuality. While the explicit content is not for everyone, those who are drawn to stories that push the limits of fantasy and explore complex relationships will find this trilogy to be an unforgettable read.
Ultimately, this is a story of transformation, liberation, and surrender to a world that is both intoxicating and dangerous. If you are open to a tale that pushes boundaries and offers a sensual, sometimes controversial, examination of desire, The Sleeping Beauty Trilogy is an unforgettable read.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 31, 2013Format: KindleVerified PurchaseFor those who read Fifty Shades of Grey, this trilogy makes spending time with Christian Grey look easy. I'd take a punishment spanking from him any day over what happens to Beauty. As I started with the first book I imagined a slightly different tale of Sleeping Beauty with some sexually explicit undertones. What I read was something quite different. I didn't know if I would enjoy reading a story that caused such sexual torment and angst but I admit, I couldn't put it down and jumped right into the other two books to see how the story unfolded and ended. I found myself captivated by the intertwining stories of Beauty, Laurent and Tristan and suffered right along with them when their worlds and ideals were shaken and tested. Eroticism and sexual tension mixed with feelings of torture, humiliation and love that these characters and others endured and found were evident on every page. I think I would have begged for death then think I could survive that life, but found myself very intrigued to think I could have. As the story unfolded I began to see that what I thought of as a miserable way to be punished and live, to learn strength and humility began to serve a purpose in who these people became and their outcomes. The trilogy screams sex of all types, but it is also more than that, its multiple stories of finding oneself, of finding your place in life and of love. Maybe not in the sense we are used to, but nonetheless its there to be found. The trilogy can be a bit intense and uncomfortable a read at times due to the subject matter, but in the end the story is captivating and makes you stop and think. A great and a fitting ending for Beauty, Laurent and Tristen. Sad to see them go. Enjoy!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 18, 2013I enjoyed this book and love Anne Rice. With this book series I have to say that I wish there was a bit more "heat" to the BDSM in the story. I found the public humiliation scenes rather cold and lacking. I know some would say BDSM consists of a lot of "cold" scenes, but I find that to be inaccurate. A "dark" and deep psychological form of passion would be better suited. But that's just me. I prefer the subs in my novels to be haunted with terrible yearning and experience deep, gut wrenching addiction towards the one inflicting exquisite pain. It would have been great if Beauty's lesson in public humiliation carried heavier and deeper meaning. Nonetheless, it is well written and still a good read with an interesting twist to the classic childhood story of Sleeping Beauty.
My one real complaint, which is the reason for my 4 instead of 5 star rating, is that I've come across misspelled/incorrect words. So the editing in the book isn't perfect, but it doesn't take away from enjoying the story too much in my opinion.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 11, 2025Nice book series.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 13, 2012Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseWhere I will agree that these books may not be for everyone... I find them an alluring and fun to read. Yes, there's a lot of sex... but there's so much more to the story. Some people have referred to these books with the description "sexual torture"... Where I believe everyone has a right to their own opinion - If you don't understand BDSM lifestyle or tend to live a more reserved lifestyle, then you wouldn't understand the pleasure that comes along with it. Anne Rice tries to explain the feelings of the submissive in these books. Don't get me wrong, I don't partake in a BDSM lifestyle and never have... but, I find nothing wrong if a person finds enjoyment in it. The books are an excellent read... I read them when I was 18, found them enticing then. I find I'm enjoying them now just as much as I did 15 years ago. Yes, the characters in the books are what we would consider underage today... These books do not take place in today, they take place in a time where children had arranged marriages at 13! Lastly, they aren't meant to be realistic... its an EROTIC FAIRYTALE.

Bjr,
