I meant to get a sample of this, but I hit order with one touch instead by accident. BOY, I REGRET THAT. I try to get samples of things so that I don’t waste money on things I’m not going to be into. (same deal with the first outlander book, except then I didn’t know you could get samples) I spent the money, so I’m gonna read this.
I am 32% finished with this bulls***and I am regretting every second of it. I have all 3 of these garbage ass books to slog through. We’re on the tail end of quarantine where I am, and I’d probably get more entertainment out of being on full hospital-bound COVID isolation with just the sound of a ventilator and a TI-85 to make graphs with and I am not a math-doing person.
Maybe I’m missing something. Maybe I am an uncultured rube who will never understand the exotic fancy tastes of whoever the target market for this writing is. To the target market for this book: I don’t get it. I love it for y’all. These books are a s***-ton of words about getting smacked around with paddles and raped a LOT by medieval cartoon people. Hope y’all are enjoying yourselves.
Look, I’m sure lots of people get their goodies from reading about people getting slapped around with paddles without doing much boning down. That’s fine for them. Love that for them, hope they enjoyed these books. For me, though? This ain’t it.
I’m not kidding. I just got through somebody getting paddled and ran all around for what seemed like a month and a half (I got through a chapter of Atlas Shrugged in less time than it took me to get through this description of punishment and none of this is a compliment to dry a** ain’t-s*** ol’ Ayn Rand) and then the sex after was about 2 paragraphs WITHOUT COMING CLOSE TO BEING INTERESTING OR EXCITING. Anne, I had to read all this hoopla about being humiliated in front of a whole bunch of people and then the reward is some 2-pump chump BS? I am not impressed. I didn’t start out impressed, and 32% of the way into this, I’m still not impressed.
Lastly, Anne needs to remove the word buttocks from her vocabulary. This is about ten billion words long and 80% of it is the word buttocks. WE GET IT.

Anne Rice hands readers a delicious tale. If you are curious about high protocol BDSM, you will enjoy this ride. If you don't understand the basis for the story, it will just seem like a lot of spankings and humiliation. It's more than obvious that Anne Rice is experienced in kink and BDSM...bravo to her for giving readers some juicy tales to chew on!

Cheeky, naughty, and sexy, the Sleeping Beauty Trilogy was 100x better than "50 Shades of Juvenile Writing" ... I mean "Grey."

I can’t believe Anne Rice wrote this god awful book! It reads as though no one proof read or edited it at all. It was like she tried to come up with the most disgusting and twisted forms of punishment and just threw them in there one after the other and piled them on top of each other. I have a very open mind, this was just terrible writing. I was shocked that such a talented writer thought this was even worth publishing. It was like she plugged a few words into the thesaurus to make it sound better. Supplicatingly isn’t even a word, she tried to use the word supplicate as an adverb... uh what? No plot, just the same idea over and over again. Waste of time.

I was not a fan. As far as erotica goes, I did not care for this. Pain and humiliation are not interesting to me. Not to mention the lack of consent on the slaves part, lol.

I had actually owned/read this trilogy a long time ago but wanted to get a new copy for myself. Anyone picking this up because they like Anne Rice (who is writing under the name A. N. Roquelaure) should be advised that this is not like her "normal" stories, such as The Vampire Chronicles. To be blunt, this is an erotica trilogy, and as such, there is a lot of explicit sex.

Wow, a friend told me about these books. Once you pick one up you won't be able to put it down. Fifty shades of grey will seem like from here to eternity after you read this series.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this version of Sleeping Beauty. The adult twists Ms. Rice has added are thrillingly wicked. Captivating from the first word to the final. This series is welll worth the read.

Unfortunately not great!
Reviewed in Germany on August 17, 2015Verified Purchase
Let me start with: I love Anne Rice books. Even though the first books that I read were the Vampire chronicles, I actually liked books like The Mummy or the Lives of the Mayfair Witches much better and was always taken by the author's ability to draw you into her world. Her stories are usually full of history, complex characters, passion and fantasy ' once you get started you just want to continue reading and forget about everything else. When I heard about the Sleeping Beauty Trilogy, I did not read any reviews, but decided to download all three books right away. In general I do not choose the genre Erotica as such, but I did enjoy Cry to Heaven, which for me still got the balance between sexuality, passion and a compelling story right, though it definitely got criticized for being too sexually graphic and the nature too homosexual.
It actually pains me to say that I regret buying all three books of the Sleeping Beauty Trilogy at once, because I actually did not continue reading past the beginning of the second book! Unfortunately I did not find anything about the story enjoyable or worth reading. I was aware of some SMS aspects within the story, but the saga turns out to be rather simple and boring, but full of humiliation of male and female sex slaves, torture, continuing rape and beatings. I found more focus was put on the repetitive descriptions of torture, pain and the ongoing rapes of male and females than on the actual characters. The story did not flow, I kept skipping pages and pages of repetitive sexual punishment until I just had enough ' I rarely decide against reading a book until the end, but in this case I felt that I had waisted enough time! My advice: start with the first book only, if you like it buy the rest, but if not you did not waist your money like I did!

This series was ok. I had much higher hopes for this series based on reviews and from reviews from friends but I found this to be very juvenile and poorly written. I had a very hard time actually finishing reading the series which was unfortunate because I was really excited to read this.

A classic series in a beautiful box set of paperbacks. Looks great and is a great read. If you love Anne Rice and are looking for something a lot better written than the Grey trilogy then you must check out this series.
