If you're looking at this because you liked Fifty Shades, keep on cruisin' because that'd be like getting a subscription to Sports Illustrated because you like the color of tennis balls. Vaguely related, yes, but you're getting way more than you are interested in. This is hardcore BDSM- not mainstream suburbanite drivel written to pacify lonely kept-wives. This series is about young princesses and princes sent away to a distant land to be sex slaves. These are FANTASTIC, if you can handle them. I personally just wish I could find more like them.

My name is Maria A Reyes. I am no expert on erotica, but I have to say, that I love the Sleeping Beauty Trilogy by Anne Rice as A.N. Roquelaure. I am now looking forward to reading more of her books as her "different" pen name or already known name. I read the books without reading the preface. I normally do not encourage my students to do this, but I wanted to allow myself the experience of the story without the influence of the author's expectation. I do not regret it.

When one studies philosophy and even theology, one encounters the questions of who am I, and why am I here... why was I created? All of the answers encountered are influenced by our socialization. This is an aspect of our life where we accept that others have had a say in how we are, whether perceived or in action. Anne Rice asked the same questions but started by taking all of the normal assumptions away from me in through a fairy tale.

What would happen if you would find yourself waking up to nakedness and be forced to intimacy at this level in your every day activity? Can you imagine? She so beautifully notes the powerful liberation in nakedness and its accompanied helplessness in showing your true self. It is in this vulnerable state, and complete exposure that true beauty exists. This is because once all of you is exposed you require a level of trust to those around you, to intimacy, that only equates to love, the exchange of that trust. One cannot longer deny the charms, the gifts one has to share. This is such a magnificent reality. It is as if one learns of one's self through others and in exposure accepts all of who we are within as a truth that cannot be denied even in the public and its judgment.

If your intent is to supplement your thirst for Fifty Shades, then you may not attain what you're looking for. This read is dirty, filthy, and vulgar related, hardcore BDSM. These are FANTASTIC, if you can handle them. I personally just wish I could find more like them.

Anne Rice is great. I love her writing style so much. This is so much better than Fifty Shades. However, it is not for the weak of heart. The reason I gave it 3 stars instead of 5 is because I did not receive the books pictured. The books I recieved are not even a matching set. Very disappointing.

Anne Rice, writing as A.N. Roquelaure. This is NOT “50 Shades of Grey” These three novels were originally published in 1983, 1984, and 1985 as a trilogy, (decades prior to the 50SoG) harking back to the origins of “Fairy tales” not the sanitized Disney versions. What Anne Rice did was crank up the erotic aspect, way up!
This trilogy is not for everyone, BDSM in all its facets, but should at least be given a chance; they are erotic literature, rather than just hot stories to get you going. Erotically, they are certainly on a level with “Venus in Furs” and “The Story of O”, and in my opinion, better written. Over three books, to maintain the level of quality and intensity, Anne Rice displays is an achievement in its own right.
A lot can be read into the stories, philosophically, spiritually, etc. In the end it comes down to a great writer carrying us the reader along for a ride. The story is FANTASY, in great fantasy, there is always a kernel of truth or reality, it does not always have to be literal. We as the reader, will get out of it what we want to put in, and if that is just a hot story-great.

<3 This will be my second set of this series....apparently it's so good you can't get your own copies back when you allow people to borrow them.....don't let anyone borrow them-just tell them to buy their own set.

This book series is not for the faint of heart and details graphic depictions of BDSM. But it is an incredibly erotic read for those that can handle the intensity.
