It his latest episode Timothy Glass who has written and illustrated this one, explores the real meaning of Christmas as seen through the wise eyes of the three loveable beagles of Sleepytown. The author has offered us a glimpse of Christmas customs in other countries and gives the reader a strong lesson in tolerance...a true Christmas message.
Well written with a simply and direct syntax, the young child will most certainly be able to follow this story line and "get the message." Our wise beagles come through for us again. The art work is crisp and bright and goes perfectly with the text. As always, the author has been able to convey the personality of each dog; dogs which of course are beagles which of course have a specific and rather unique personality which will be instantly recognized by anyone who have ever come into contact with this specific breed...beagles are rather special little dogs that will work themselves into your life and heart instantly.
The giving and receiving of presents is thoroughly gone over and in the end; in true beagle wisdom, in is pretty well decided that the act of giving is much, much more satisfying than that of receiving.
Folks, this book is simply good as are all the books in this series. This one and the others always offer a simple yet profound message. Not only are they highly entertaining, but also very informative and give the reader much food for thought.
This little book will make a great Christmas gift for the wee ones on your family; one that I suspect will stay with them for quite some time.
I was grateful and appreciative of the fact that I have yet another book in this series to add to my collection and have yet another great story to add to my school reading list...the kids are going to love this one. We are starting our Christmas reading program and this one is going to fit in quite nicely.
I encourage you to add this one to your shopping list...you won't be sorry.
Even though I have not read any of the other books in the Sleepytown Beagles series, I have read Tim Glass's other books "Just This Side of Heaven" and "Postcards" and I would highly recommend any of his books to all who value relationships and family.
This charming story is certain to be a favorite during the holidays and all through the year.
