What Are Slice Ceramic Blades?
Made from high-tech Zirconium Oxide, Slice ceramic blades are known for their hardness and durability. They last up to 10x longer than steel, and thanks to our unique manufacturing and sharpening process, they're safer to hold and use compared to traditional metal blades. Zirconium Oxide, the key material in Slice ceramics, is chemically inert, non-porous, non-stick and impervious to acids, salt, and rust. Chemically inert means no impact or reaction with what you're cutting, as well as a strong defense against harmful bacteria. Slice ceramic blades are also free of lubricants and oils that traditional metal blades require to combat premature rusting. Slice ceramic blades never rust.
Metal blades are rated 5.5 on the Mohs hardness scale compared to Slice ceramic blades at 8.2, second only to diamonds. Harder edges maintain sharpness longer, cut better, and require replacement far less frequently. In fact, depending on use, you can go weeks or months without having to replace a Slice ceramic blade. Slice ceramic blades last up to 10x longer vs. traditional metal blades.

Top Customer Reviews
Now the stuff they they don't tell you... There are two of them, both available from Amazon.
This green one has a very small blade which is very safe. It is better for cutting wrapping papers and coupons. It cuts plastic packaging with more pressure.
The other one, iSlice, is blue and has a longer blade. This one you can cut yourself if you tried hard enough. It is better for opening plastic packages. It does not have a hole to hang, but it has a built-in magnet like the green one to attach to a frig or something. The longer blade goes through more than 1 sheet of paper, so it is not good for cutting out coupons from newspaper and magazines.
Both work amazingly well.
I have bought several of these over the past few years. I tend to be quite rough on things like this, so I was impressed at how well it had held up. I use it up to several times a week and they tend to work as well if not better than scissors.
In addition to opening packages, I do use this slicer for other tasks. As a medical student, I have to read a LOT of books, many of which are heavy and annoying if not impossible to carry around (especially if you only need one or two chapters at a time). Instead, I have found it to be MUCH easier during the course of my studies to remove pages from used textbooks I have purchased and punch holes in them to keep in a binder for the subject I am studying (FYI if you are a medical student, this slicer works GREAT for taking First Aid for Step 1 apart and placing in a binder -- MUCH easier than making the trek to Kinkos to have them do it and lugging the whole thing back). This slicer is FAR AND AWAY the best thing I have ever found for cleanly and easily slicing pages out of bound books. I tried using scissor initially but they did not work well because of the tightness of typical book bindings and trying to take the books apart by hand usually resulted in most of the pages being ripped. This slicer is great for very quickly and efficiently removing the pages I want while still leaving room for punching holes without the hole puchn cutting out any of the text. Part of the reason I have gone through at least 2 of these slicers in the past few years is because I have been using them for this purpose. If I was ONLY using it for opening packages, I would probably still be on the first slicer bought about 2 years ago.
I do like how small it is and the shape is great, holding onto it and maneuvering it is easy. I was really hoping to rave about it!
The cutting part of this utensil is very shallow and you have to drag the cutter very straight and parallel to the package. Most packaging does not allow this with edges, curves etc. It also had trouble cutting deep.
There are so many similar products out there, find one that isn't as exact in the way you have to use it.
