Simple. Stylish. Sliding.
Just because we have a nifty buckle doesn’t mean we’re willing to let style go by the wayside. For the 8 years that we’ve sold belts without holes, we’ve been constantly improving our buckle to create a clean, minimalist look without the ugly lever and bulky mechanism of a normal ratchet belt. We want your belt to look good, feel good, and be easy and intuitive to use.
What is a SlideBelts brand ratchet belt? It's a leather belt that lets you freely adjust your belt size without the limitation of holes in the leather. In fact, there are no holes at all! A tab in the buckle catches on a row of notches sewn onto the underside of the leather, allowing for over 30 size options with 1/4" (6.35 mm) between adjustments. All SlideBelts come with a belt strap that can be trimmed to your exact waist size. The full length of one of our straps fits a 44" (112 cm) waist size. All buckles are completely removable and interchangeable with compatible SlideBelts products. Try SlideBelts out and see why there's no reason to poke holes in a perfectly good piece of leather.

Just an update. This is no longer a "gimmick" in my book. It is a functional belt and buckle that works well. It has been a couple of months of use now and the system shows no signs of wear or loosening. Very pleased with the this belt.
First, the idea behind the buckle is just cool. Most variable belts like this (without holes at fixed distances) have limitations for me. Canvas belts where the clasp digs into the fabric wear out quickly. Woven leather belts can be too thick to carry a multi-tool or knife sheath. This design seems like it won't tear up the belt over time, and it's still just a plain leather strap all the way around.
Unfortunately, the execution of the buckle has some trouble. It's very heavy, which is annoying when undoing it to slip on a sheath or sit down on the toilet. It's also really long: the thing that actually latches onto the belt is on the small piece of metal, not on the larger buckle. So if you line the larger part up with your belly button, the part with the latch will be off to the side, maybe hitting the belt loop of your jeans. I wonder if it could be made smaller and maybe from a lighter metal, that could really improve things.
The strap itself is rather flimsy, especially given how heavy the buckle is. It could stand to be a bit taller, that might help. For whatever reason, the strap is easier to slide around in one direction than another. During the course of the day, the whole belt tends to "wander" around so the buckle gets off-center. But it's hard to move it back without loosening things up first. It's also not the best leather (there's a premium version for that) so I'm not optimistic about it lasting very long, but I might be wrong.
Purely on looks, this thing is sharp. The buckle is shiny and clear, but dark and not ostentatious. The strap looks clean and professional. On the rare occasions that I do have to dress up, this belt is going to make me look good. Most of the time, though, it's going to be hidden under my untucked shirt, so you can see why I'm more interested in how it works than how it looks.
Last thing's the cost. This was a gift, but I'd be remiss if I didn't talk about it in an honest review. I don't see $45 worth of materials in this belt. Maybe it's difficult to assemble? I would think at that price, we could get lighter metal or sturdier leather. It'd be nice anyway.
In summary: this belt is a great idea, and it looks really slick, but there's room for improvement in the execution. I think this is much more of a dress belt than a "working outdoors" belt. If you want something that's going to be infinitely adjustable and look really nice, this belt will do well. If you want to strap on your tools and go work out in the yard, maybe try something else.
