After loosing her boyfriend in an accident, Marie wants no-strings attached relationships. One night she wanders into a dive on the docks. Ignoring Shaw's warning about the type of place it is.
Shaw watches her, and follows her when she leaves to protect her. Finding out she can take care of herself.
Shaw is a Black -Ops, and is using his bar to gather needed intelligence.
This Author is just as good as Nora Roberts.
In Sliding into Black the first book in the series of the same name, T. L. Kitae writes a compelling novel of romantic suspense set in the 1970s, during the sexual revolution and the ongoing Vietnam War. Kitae effectively tells this story through the eyes of Marie Raines and Shaw Delaney.
After the death of her boyfriend, Marie swears that she’ll never get emotionally involved with another man again. Her resolve holds steady until she walks into a dive bar and meets Shaw, the bartender. Taken aback by her physical attraction to Shaw, Marie does her best to ignore her feelings. Shaw is immediately attracted to Marie because of her quick wit and the way she doesn’t let anyone push her around, which I really loved about her character. The sexual chemistry between Marie and Shaw sizzles, and their bedroom play is filled with plenty of heat. While Shaw is drawn to Marie, he struggles with their burgeoning relationship because he is a Navy SEAL and works with Marie’s father in Naval Intelligence, which endeared his character to me. Shaw knows that his feelings for Marie could distract him from his mission, making me worry for him. Although their relationship is initially based on great sex, they both realize that their attraction is so much more than that. Kitae does a masterful job of showing the change in their relationship while at the same time building the black op involving a Chinese gang, captivating the reader with both parts of the story which results in a pulse-pounding climax and a stunning cliffhanger ending.
Sliding into Black combines an entertaining plot and an engaging couple to create a page-turning beginning to a new series. I look forward to visiting with Marie and Shaw again in the next installment of this series.
