“… a cutting-edge diet that delivers incredible results. The foundation of her food plan are “pulses,” which promote the growth of your good gut bacterial flora, which turn on your fat-burning genes, promote vibrant health, and prevent disease. Slim Down now is a must read.” (Gerard E. Mullin MD, Associate Professor of Medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and author of The Gut Balance Revolution)
From the Back Cover
Get ready to put aside all your calorie counting, appetite suppressing, no-pain-no-gain diets. Cynthia Sass, author of S.A.S.S. Yourself Slim and coauthor of Flat Belly Diet!, introduces the surprising superfood that is the secret to weight loss. Called “pulses,” this unique class of protein-rich carbs (including filling and satisfying lentils, beans, and chickpeas) actually boosts calorie- and fat-burning, whittles away belly fat, prevents snack attacks, and creates long-lasting energy. Plus, they’re gluten free, readily available, and affordable!
In Slim Down Now, Cynthia Sass reveals the scientifi cally demonstrated power of pulses, which she has incorporated into a dynamic, fl exible weight-loss plan that focuses on how these supershredders can ultimately transform your body.
The 30-day challenge asks you to put aside your usual weight-loss methods and adopt an entirely new approach to food, health, and weight management. You start with the four-day Rapid Pulse, where you make one simple recipe (a pudding!) daily for four days . . . but in those four days, you’ll lose up to 8 pounds! Then, you move on to the Daily Pulse, a 26-day program where you include one serving of pulse each day. Sass’s plan includes a simple DIY meal-building strategy you’ll love, as well as delicious, deprivation-free recipes, including a savory veggie quiche, garlicky shrimp scampi, and even oven-roasted potatoes. In fact, there is an entire chapter on desserts, including mouth-watering brownie bites and mini pumpkin spice muffi ns. The meal plan includes grocery lists and restaurant options and can be followed by gluten-free eaters, vegans, vegetarians, and omnivores alike.
In addition to this new approach to eating, Sass reveals that less exercise rather than more can actually be the key to successful weight loss. Forget feeling pressure to spend hours on an elliptical or at exhausting boot camp classes. With this program, exercise becomes a more organic part of your day, rather than that nagging item on your to-do list. Bonus: you’ll also learn a simple five minute technique that will boost your mood and overall happiness.
Sound too good to be true? We promise it’s not. Get started today, and see the pounds melt away.

When I heard about this book (in health magazine I think), I was excited because it sounded like a plan I could do forever. I wrote to the author, and asked if I could use this book for maintenance instead of weight loss. She wrote back the same day and said I could definitely do that.
I've been using the diet for a week now, and it's going great! The actual foods I'm eating are not much different than on many other balanced plans I've been on (Body for Life, 21 Day Fix, and one custom-made for me by a sports nutritionist), but this plan is so easy to follow that I'm actually doing it! The rules are so easy and intuitive that I feel like I know what to eat in any situation. For example, last night I was literally locked in a room with chocolates for 4 hours by myself, with nothing to do. Normally I would eat all the candy, give up on whatever plan I was on, and start a new cycle of binging and dieting. But this time, I just ate a couple pieces, and left the "accessories" and "shoes" out of my next meal.
This plan has options for meat, vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free, so whatever I feel like eating, I know it will still work.
I have tried a few recipies from the book, and they were all really easy and tasty.
I feel like I finally know what it's like to be a normal, healthy eater. I have finally found the plan I will use forever. I can't thank Cynthia Sass enough for writing this book! Also, she is super nice, and personally answered many questions for me on Facebook.
I say "lazily" bc I really didn't follow it wholeheartedly... I cheated. If I would have followed it perfectly who knows how much I would have lost!
Her plan is SO simple! No counting calories, no weighing food, just simple healthy food with a very logical approach.
She breaks it down into a wardrobe philosophy which I know sounds silly but it makes so much sense. Shirt= lean protein (fish, chicken, egg, cottage cheese, yogurt, legumes, beans, etc), pants= vegetables, shoes= plant based fat (peanut butter, oil, etc) and then one "accessory" like a hat= grains, or fruit or starchy vegetable (corn, potato, etc)
Not only did this make sense to me but also the portion sizes were much smaller so I began eating less of certain things & much more veggies. But the strange thing was all my cravings went away & my energy increased.
Now eating that was is the final phase of her method. The first phase is 4 days worth of eating ONLY chia seed pudding, she has 3 flavors but the chocolate one is the only one I liked, as good & filling as it was I couldn't eat it for 3 meals 4 days in a row, but I did do 1 day. The 2nd phase is eating the pudding for 1 meal, I did this for 3 days. Then the final phase mentioned before.
I guess there are SO many diets out there bc different things work for different people... But this one worked for me! And hopefully continues to.... I'll update my weightless progress...
