All I have to say is that if the original SlingPlayer app can operate on Macs from OS 10.3.9 through OS 10.10, then there's no justifiable reason for not making the new desktop app operate on older OS's. Also, the new app seems to be able to control even the oldest SlingBoxes, like my Solo. To me, this suggests that Sling Media could have made the new app able to control all models of Sling Boxes & to have had it be compatible all the way back to OS 10.3.9. I actually had to purchase a newer OS for one computer and scrap another computer, altogether, replacing it with one that could handle the rather high processor speeds being demanded by the new app. And here's another interesting bit; for several months now, I've been using the Desktop App on a MacMini whose processor speed is only 2.5 GHz. If I remember correctly, the app states a processor speed of at least 2.8 GHz, yet my computer has no problems using it. It just seems to me like the engineers at Sling never look beyond the product they are currently designing to see if it's going to cause a compatibility issue with end users. They just don't seem to care at the management level! Yeah, the commercials suck, but SlingMedia has many more serious customer consideration issues to even worry 'bout rather than the ads, at this time! They need to be way more end user friendly!! I can't help but feel that someone else is going to show up with similar technology, and if they do, I'll sure give them a try, as I'm sick and tired of Sling Media's engineers screwing me!!!

Why are some folks blasting this company about ads, issues, etc. I am watching TV now out of the U.S. On the "FREE" app from the itunes store and experiencing NO problems at all, and NO ads. I almost didn't purchase this due to the bad PR some of the idiots have posted about this product, but decided to give it a try. Of course you might have a streaming issue from time to time, but that's just part of watching video over the Internet. All in all, It's GREAT!

Love the idea of the product. Using it to help my bro living in Hong Kong to get some US TV.

No HDMI?!?! Had to go out and buy some component cables and wrestle with my now not 100% digital setup. Frustrating!!!

BTW the ad supported app is not that big of a deal. No ads in full screen and for $15 you can get rid of the ads permanently. I get how long-time users were used to getting all this for free, but it is not as terrible as some make it seem.

I bought this to upgrade from my first generation slingbox that I needed to keep near my router in order to plug it into the ethernet port. No more of that!

Not only is the wi-fi option on this an outstanding upgrade, but the quality of the picture that's transmitted is awesome too!

This was easy to connect to my TV and sound system and to get all of the apps connected. I use the paid versions of both the Android and iPad apps on my devices to watch my cable, DVD, and On Demand programs everywhere I've travelled without fail and I couldn't be happier with this new Slingbox!

I would (and have!) buy this again and highly recommend to everyone!

Works as intended. Ads on web interface aren't annoying and they're not visible on full screen. Android app is great. If the ads keep me from paying a monthly fee for Sling to maintain their web portal and relay servers, then that's fine by me. I set my box up back home so I can watch out of market NFL games and that's exactly what I'm able to do. The negative reviews for this product honestly look like a coordinated attack from a competitor. Or, maybe just a bunch of babies. Either way, this is a solid product and it is worth the money. Sling did not pay me to write this review and I paid for the M2 with my own money.

Been slinging my cable from home to Portland all week and it works very well. Integration with apple TV could be improved (when streaming from device to Apple TV response time of controls is very slow. But works very well directly on device. The ability to access my DVR remotely is terrifically useful. (I thiink Sling should remove the short ads that stream when you first start up the free version of the app — but I guess its a small price to pay (and I believe you can upgrade to the paid app and remove the ads). Overall - this is just the device I need to keep up with my TV when I'm out of town!

This product is amazing - and so easy to set up. I had a couple questions and when I called the toll free number, low and behold, I got a real person who actually lives in the States! This happened twice so it was not a fluke. I highly recommend this product!

It uses as input 2x COMPONENT CABLES NOT HDMI, in other words, It needs to be connected to 12 RCA type cables at the back (see picture attached). The Sligbox M2 box from Sling Media contains only 6 RCA cables. So I hope you have your cable/satellite connected by old skewl Component Cables or you wont be able to use it out of the box.

Oh and it works really well and it is very easy to setup no errors at all. Highly recommended.

Only had this a week and not happy at all with the consistency of the connection when I am trying to connect to my slingbox from outside the home. It locked out all day yesterday and had to unplug it when I got home to restart it. Useless for the day.

UPDATE: Gave up on connecting the slingbox on my network via wireless and connected it via ethernet connection and it has made a world of difference. Starts every time and connection has been great.

No offense to the folks who responded to my question about whether the M2 would allow me to control my 6-tuner Moxi with the standard, "check with Slingbox" answer. I was looking for a practical, substantive answer from someone who has done it. The practical answer is, Yes - it works and works well (even over a 4G network, albeit with occasional intermittent lags). The setup recognized my Moxi device and gave me full remote control. Although the Android tablet version of Slingplayer has a full featured remote, the Android smartphone version has rudimentary remote functions. I can see all my channels & recordings and even schedule recordings via remote phone, tablet or Roku.
