But, there are other factors involved in a customer's experience with a product. And when a company makes an overt and unmitigated attempt to alienate their customer base, this can really negatively impact the experience. Recently, Sling rolled out an update to the desktop application. For some unfathomable reason, they decided to embed advertising in the application. Rather than a sleek, tight, user interface which allows you to watch TV on your PC, there is a bloated and garish window with not one(1) but two(2) ad locations.
Thus, it seems that to buy their product is merely the cost of entry. If you want to use the product, well, that costs more. And you, as a potential buyer, should know this before deciding. The Slingbox forum is replete with complaints from other users, but, as of this writing, I've seen no response from Sling. Not even a defense. So they are either unaware not interested in their user-base's feedback. More evidence for your purchasing decision.
The remote codes: I bought this so that I could help my mom watch her favorite shows. The new remotes are complicated for her, and so this enables me to remotely help her watch and record what she wants to see. My mom's service is with Cox, so I was surprised to see that after updating the Slingbox, it still didn't have a listing for my mom's cable box. I had to google the issue and figure out that Xfinity has a X1 box that is basically the same. Shouldn't $300 for a streaming box pay for someone at Slingbox to keep their remote codes updated?
HDMI cabling. If you haven't encountered HDCP issues with other devices, this one has it. Thankfully, for ANOTHER $70 you can get https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B077YKCFGS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 this HDMI to component adapter box. I would think for $300, Slingbox could have built this box into their device (it's possible), but no.
As far as picture quality is concerned, it seems fine. If you have a newer set-top-box from your provider, just expect to be googling answers instead of finding the solution from slingbox.

You can only have 1 user connected at a time. My TV supplier now offers they're own streaming app and everyone in my family can view what they want. A product like this isn't that useful.
And why are there Ads? My television supplier gives me enough of those now I have an ad before loading the Sling Media player and while watching TV in window mode.
This product was purchased for use in my office and is not a good fit. The office subscribes to Cogeco and the cable receiver model isn't listed so it takes a bit of searching to find a compatible model. There's no way to block out the channels we're not subscribed to and so it's a bit of guess work as to what channels we can watch. Again only 1 user can watch at a time and so for an office setting its use is almost non-existent.
It's just too much money with too few features.
