This book is a must-read for twenty-somethings, for their parents, and for anyone else trying to understand the struggles our young people face. Poignant, thought-provoking, and at times, raw, this book will make you think. You will root not just for the character, Michael Reilly, but for a whole generation of young people we need to understand... a generation that is the future.
One of the striking things about this book is how the character tries to avoid a painful experience from his childhood. He circles around and around, hinting at something, but not "going there." Just when I thought he wasn't going to reveal anything about this experience, the story slipped out -- so naturally and in such a poignant way that it moved me to tears.
If you are wondering why I am not rating this book with five stars, it is because I am very stingy with that fifth star. This book would have benefited from a good copyeditor. And I have a feeling this is just the beginning for the author... I sure hope so. He has an engaging writing style and a gift with words. And besides, a young person following his passion and living his potential, even in this complicated world, gives me great hope.
