After filling a 4" glass roller ball bottle w/liquid muscle relaxant, realized the glass was slick enuf that I'd prob drop it. So applied to bottle and cap, and was just the right remedy tho it didn't stick 100% to the smooth surfaces. But, has stuck on enuf since applying in early 2017.
Meanwhile, the several times I've needed to replace my cell phone, which necessitated a new case as well, starting dropping phone quite a lot. I thought it was bc I've had some loss of sensation in my hands over the past few years. Started wondering what I could do to prevent (in 30 years of having a cell phone, dropped one maybe, maybe, 3X in all those years). As I shopped for cases, read a few descriptions that boasted of being easy in/out of pockets. Ah, not me as much as the decreasing amt of non-slip areas on the cases.
I rarely carry my cell in a pocket after years of either having in my purse or tote when leaving house or just laying on a counter -- rarely had the need/desire to have the thing with me at all times. Found myself dropping phone several times a day, regardless of where it had been. Broke the fingerprint sensor on power button the 2nd to last time. Most recent hard landing brought the sensor back, go figure. But the phone's other functions started up on their own: self-muting, not being able to answer calls, suddenly zooming the scroll, suddenly taking me back to a site or article of many days prior.
So gathering my wits to switch the phones. New case is a little better than prior 2-3, but still far from what I want/need for slip resistance. The adhesive, non-slip stair tabs tend to come off other surfaces I've used them on, such as my TV remote controller. I remembered I still had most of this anti-slip stuff somewhere. I will apply judiciously to sides and back of new phone case ... if I can find it 😆 If I can't, I'll buy another bottle. The TV remote, cordless phone receivers, and remote control for ceiling fan will also get treated. Who knows what else I'll find that I can enhance the grip on - limitless 😊 Thank you for this product, in a reasonable size for small jobs.
Tried several bath mats that do not have suction cups (they would tear the new surface off) and those mats just slipped around. I was terrified to use this tub after hip replacement surgery.
Decided to try this Slip Doctor product. I am thrilled with the results.
Easy to use, dries crystal clear.
I let the product cure for 48 hours before using the shower. I think it's good for many more months but even if not, I would happily buy and apply 2-3 times a year. My shower floor was like ice and treacherous to me but now I can safely move without holding onto a grab bar.
I tried the stick on traction things - they were junk and fell off after a couple weeks.
I tried the suction cup matts, and those worked for a little while, but you had to keep them very clean and pick them up after every shower otherwise scum would get under and make them a skating rink as well.
Then I found this stuff and it was a miracle. Application was super easy. I sanded the surface of the shower (probably should have done that in the beginning to give a little more traction). I cleaned it well, then squirted this bottle out and used the provided roller. The roller is small, but it actually does not take long to apply.
I let it set up for 32 hours before using the shower. It had a sand light texture, but it wasn't hard on the feet. It was also a miracle because I didn't break my neck trying to get into the shower or while using it. I was so happy. I had read on another review that it wears out and they'd reapply. I figured I could do that once a year, sure.
Well it only took a couple weeks before the sand texture was completely gone. I was fearing for when I would step in that shower and nearly die in the process. That day hasn't come yet. The texture may be gone, but the floor still does not get slippery. So far, so good. Even if I had to reapply right now I would not mind, it is cheaper than installing a new shower, even if you DIY.
So if you are suffering from a very slippery shower, I do recommend this stuff. It is easy to put down and it lasts a good while and it can save your life.
But the product does work very well. It was super easy to apply (5 minutes to scour the tub, 2 minutes to apply the product), and it indeed dried to a clear, textured surface that will prevent slipping. The product appears to be some kind of thinned industrial adhesive that is whipped into a rough surface during application by the action of the foam roller... pretty ingenious.
Pros: Easy to apply (so simple anyone could do it), negligible odor, quantity provided is enough to do one average bathtub or shower. Although the product looks yellow in the bottle, it does dry clear.
Cons: Can be hard to see during application. If the formula could be improved to go on with a distinct color and dry clear (as some glue sticks do), that would be helpful. No ingredients are listed - a bit of a concern since this coating will contact my family's bare skin. It's also unclear if it will be possible to REMOVE Tub Grip from the bathtub if that ever becomes necessary. Finally, the price is kind of high for what this product is; it ought to cost under ten dollars. Granted, one could ask "What price on SAFETY?" but surely this could be sold profitably for less and still achieve a higher margin than the ugly mats and stick-on products it replaces.
UPDATE: Knocked the review down to 4 stars. After about 8 months of daily use washing my two children in the bathtub, the Tub Grip coating has darkened slightly and is beginning to wear off - in some places, it's completely gone and we're back to a slippery enamel surface again. Looks like in a bathroom that's used regularly, it could be necessary to apply this product on an annual basis. That's not completely unexpected, but I think the product ought to be cheaper or a bit more durable.
Long Version:
I have a fiberglass jacuzzi style tub that has an embossed type pattern which, at first blush, seems like a built-in anti-slip texture. That pattern is wonderful in such a capacity right up until it is wet! Once it is wet the embossed pattern has all of the traction adding power of a cartoon banana peel. I realized that this represented a real safety hazard to myself and my wife (who was then pregnant).
So my first attempt to improve upon the 'disaster waiting to happen' that was my bathtub was to get a good quality suction cupped bottom anti-slip tub mat. I cleaned the tub prior to putting that mat in and let it dry, then purposefully placed it so that as many of the suctions cups as possible were on the smooth portions of the tub bottom, in between the embossed textured areas, as I expected this would give me the best chance of the mat's suction cups getting a good seal. I ran the shower briefly then stepped in the tub just to see if it would worked and all appeared wonderful at that point.. However, within about a week I found the mat would give me just enough traction to allow me to get one foot out of the tub and onto the bathroom floor (good so far), but then would instantly lose all usefulness as the suction cups directly underneath my foot slid along the fiberglass!
One episode of nude splits over the edge of the tub was all I could handle of that nonsense!
Enter Amazon and "Tub Grip": I thoroughly read reviews on anti-slip materials/ coating / solutions on Amazon and decided to give Tub Grip a chance. At this point I did NOT want to regret the purchase (not because of the price but rather because I was getting down right sick and tired of dealing with this situation as I was regularly concerned about my then pregnant wife every time she took a shower). So the instructions included were read and followed TO THE LETTER! The results have been nothing short of fantastic! I was timid at first because looking at the tub floor you could barely tell there was anything there at all after it was dry. However after having used it now for almost 3 months I can say with absolute confidence that this stuff does exactly what it advertised it would do!
I was so impressed with it that when my aging parents just recently purchased a house with a walk in shower that has a fiberglass base I did not even think twice about ordering more of this and will again follow the instructions explicitly and expect that the results will provide my parents with a safe showering environment.
I can't speak to the durability of the product, but as of now, we are very happy with the results, and I would highly recommend it to anyone... in fact, I have just ordered another bottle for my mom and a slippery bathtub that she has!
Pros:
*The obvious... prevents slipping!
*Coats entire bottom of the tub (the stickers and bath mats leave areas unprotected).
*Easy to care for... just clean the tub with a non-abrasive cleanser, like SoftScrub.
*It is clear, and doesn't clash with bathroom colors/design/decor... if you look closely, you can see a slight sheen difference where it is, but that's it!
Cons:
*Some might consider the price to be a bit high, but I think it is fair, especially for what you receive... permanent anti-slip protection that does what it is supposed to without looking ugly or silly... no need to compromise on appearance for the sake of safety!!
*Availability... Amazon was the only place I could find this, which is fine by me, as long as it continues to be available, in case we need more!
My previous review stands! With even better results. The prices has been applied to another bathtub that still has not worn off after several years with no signs of wear whatsoever.
It in fact works so well that after my recent divorce & purchase of a new home I have applied it to my new shower with that same type of surface prep.
Mrelm wrote a review on this stuff with what I think is an excessive amount of prep work using muratic acid which unless you have HUGE amounts of soap scum or NEVER properly clean your shower/tub is quite a bit of over kill.
Do the prep work, pore all of the product on all at once throughout the area you want covered going very slightly up the sides & you will have the same results I did which will last for many many years!!
The container was definitely enough to fully cover the shower floor (bathtub converted to walk-in shower.) I let it dry several hours then went back & applied another coat to use up the bottle. There wasn't enough product for a complete 2nd coats & I don't know if it necessarily needed 2 coats. With the 2nd coat I didn't go all the way to the edges & into the corners. You don't stand that close to edge or in the corner of a shower so that wasn't a problem. It's been about 4months & it's holding up fine. Shower is for 92 year old & she is very happy with the result. It's so much better than using a rubber bathmat, which get so mildewy and slippery so quickly, plus they dont look so good. Shower was virtually unusable before this product.
The only reason for the 4 stars is because it's such a small amount of product for the price. I recommend & would buy it again if I had another floor that needed it.
