Maximilian Forte is an associate professor of anthropology at Concordia University in Montreal. Now that we can see first hand the effects of the long-term devastation wrought by NATO it becomes even more important to understand how the role we played in this continuing tragedy unfolded.

I admit I bought this book for a class so I didn't get much of a choice (and based on the recommended to buy together list it seems the majority of people who do are taking the same class) yes it was a tolerable read but really I think a 20 page summary would be more than sufficient for anyone interested in the subject

Slouching Towards Sirte was an interesting read in that it provided the African content's over view of the war in Libya. While that is a valuable POV it is not the global birds eye view that this event should be couched in. A broader perspective would be to draw in all the interested and effected parties and not exclude particular players. I found it at once too broad and not nearly broad enough.

The author would brook no inquiries as to why this was. Very well written and thorough on the many evil elements and actors that drove the war, except this ESSENTIAL ingredient. Tragic.

Maximilian Forte has written a deep and penetrating analysis on ‘Nato’s War on Libya and Africa’, laying bare the lies and deceit that has left a once stable and prosperous country in economic ruin and ethnic dislocation. Gaddafi’s push for a more integral Africa through the A U (African Unity) encouraged African migrant workers into Libya where Arab resentment became manipulated into a racist war backed to the hilt by Nato bombing on behalf of western interests. This ambitious programme of inspired initiatives by Gaddafi won him the admiration of much of the African political and tribal leaders, but drew mockery and resentment from the west, namely America. An independent African financial system backed by gold and national sovereignty over natural resources is anathema to America’s claim upon the planet. As we see repeatedly throughout the world, many other elements work hard in the service of this deceptive web of corruption, whether it be mass and social media, the United Nations, Amnesty International or the International Criminal Court. Africom (U S African Command) is desperately trying to undermine Chinese trade and influence throughout the continent and apparently no human price is too high to pay when it comes to American national interests. This deep rooted, anti-humanitarian cynicism is part of a global wave of crimes against humanity that has infected American monologue with Orwellian double speak. Slouching Towards Sirte is an exceptional study and expose to yet another layer of Nato driven crimes.

Oh dear - we only wanted to help the people of Libya and it all went to hell. Who could have guessed we would get it wrong - ok besides Iraqis, Afghans, Vietnamese. A truthful account of the terrible tragedy unleashed by NATO's war against the Gaddafi government, which had the fault of being suited to Libya and Africa, but not to the Western powers nor to the Arab elites in the Gulf. Forte exposes the lies used to justify this shameful war and, above all, the anti-black racism that was perhaps its deepest hidden motive. This was a war of pure destruction that has left Libya in a shambles and deprived Africa of a force for progress. Never perhaps have such crimes been committed so rapidly in such ignorance.
