A show for gamers
Verified purchase
People often describe this as a kids show. It's not. It's not really for adults either. It doesn't have a target age group. It's a show marketed to gamers. If you've grown up playing RPGs, platformer adventure games, watching/reading fantasy set films/books, or if you just like minecraft, this show is for you.

In D&D terms, show is primarily about a LG human fighter (fin) and his befriended magical beast (Jake) whom is probably CG. And it's probably one of like 10 total shows on american TV that feature an actually LG protagonist (most are evil with "More evil" antagonists).

Episodes are short (11 min or so each, Amazon episodes are 2-episodes pairs). Plots are usually simple and good natured, though some get weird (but nothing too dark).

No profanity. Violence is used, but they don't reward violence, Fin usually has to solve problems by actually talking to people, listening, and observing. A good show for kids and adults.

Alexa Messed Up

So I'm sure the episode itself is fine but Alexa bought this episode for me without my permission. It was a very passive aggressive thing for her to do, which makes sense because my bf isn't the nicest to her, but still. He told her to "Play Adventure Time on FireTV" like we always do and for some reason she opened it in Prime Video. She then told us the price and asked us if we wanted to purchase it. K the only response we gave her was "no" nothing complicated or confusing, and she says "Okay I'll go ahead and order that for you" before we even know what happened. I'm not hating on Alexa, I just want my $4 back for a cartoon episode I never intended to buy. And this website is not any better in directing help for digital orders I mean I didn't even have the option to cancel it or ask for a refund so... Amazon I would really appreciate help getting this fixed.

Best cartoon of the 21st century
Verified purchase
The most popular cartoon on the Cartoon Network currently is Adventure Time. It is beloved by children, teenagers, adults, girls, boys, alike. Created by Pendleton Ward and set in the post-apocalyptic Land of Ooo, it's not hard to see why:

1) Adventure Time has simple, yet colorful animation. Adventure Time is probably the most colorful show on television right now. Even if you are watching on standard definition, your television screen illuminates while watching Adventure Time. The animation doesn't rely on CGI gimmicks to catch your eye, only imagination. The sights are so vivid, including the background. The animation is completely sketched and has a 90s feel to it.

2) Adventure Time has, in my view, the most interesting and funniest bunch of characters of any show on television. The show's main characters are the wise cracking Jake The Dog and Finn The Human, Jake's naïve, young best friend. Others include Valley Girl-accented Lumpy Space Princess, of the `lumpy' peoples; BMO, an all-in-one talking electronic device; Princess Bubblegum, the nerdy Princess of the `candy peoples'; and punk rocker Marceline, The Vampire Queen.

3) Adventure Time has comedy, fantasy, action, romance, music, science fiction, and horror all in one. The humor is slapstick and irreverent and so random. Musical numbers are incorporated regularly, which are usually infused with the show's irreverent humor. There's always action and a new adventure - Finn and Jake are always fighting off bad guys and saving friends/people in need. While The Land of Ooo looks colorful and much of it is `happy', it is largely `dark' inside. There are several eye-catching scary moments.

Adventure Time is the best cartoon of the 21st century, in my view. I didn't watch many cartoons during my adult life until I discovered Adventure Time while channel surfing. Adventure Time was my gateway drug to other cartoons. Cartoons, especially Adventure Time, offer a form of escapism and feature a level of imagination which I've come to appreciate.

This is a Great Series

As I write this I have thought about what the DVD of the First Season of ATWFAJ is interesting about the Series to me. I had to realize why I came to be even interested in this show.
I love animated anything and I didn't think this was very worthy of praise utill I saw the comparison of the 'old hippie' cartoons I used to see when I was young and in the 60's (Mr. Nartural, The Furry Freak Bros., etc...),and this series really reminds me of them.
The thing is: I love it. It really is weird enough to be an old 60's cartoon,( minus the singing, which happens on ATWFAJ occasionally, but is quite catchy).
No you do not need any chemical enhancements for this and the kids would love it also, but I would get it because it is the best original series I have seen Lately, Except The Regular Show, which I think is a terrific program also. A Nod to Amazing World of Gumball, also. All are bizzare and funny in their own ways.
This show is already receiving honors, I believe, such as an Emmy, and that says a lot to me about this.
Get the DVD's and enjoy!

So i just got this today and i'm loving it. I haven't seen any of the episodes but I do know that the pilot is not on this set, i checked the episode listing in the dvd insert. there are i believe 4 episodes on disc 1 that have audio commentaries on them, the rest of the special features are on disc 2. theres a behind the scenes feature that is pretty scary lol, and a behind the behind the scenes lol. theres a pretty cool lil video called "finodeum" i think thats how you spell it, its pretty cool! all i have to say is fans of adventure time! theres a lil short called "the wand" its pretty funny! never saw it before. and some hand drawn scenes that were i guess never made into an episode, i haven't seen it but it looks like it. i'll take a look later. above all, if your an adventure time fan please support this release so that we can get the rest of the seasons out on dvd as complete sets!

It's Math, man

This show is so stupid hilarious I can't stop watching.
I can't wait for the second season to come out on DVD boxed set (and not the stupid random jumble of episodes!)
I would recommend the show for anyone over 14, maybe I'm too prudish but I wouldn't let my 13 or under child watch it; it's not particularly violent, the language isn't terrible, there are a few "sexy" statements thrown in at random but those aren't so much of why I would object to a younger audience than I would rather my children do something more meaningful with their time. I suppose it is like Family Guy: It's also horrible and hilarious at the same time, it makes me laugh my butt off, but I'm an adult: I won't be influenced by the things I see because I know who I am and what kind person I am.
The show really is about nothing, there are no morals or lessons that the characters learn. It's just something to laugh at.
I hope that makes sense and that this review helps.

What everyone's been wanting to have released

This dvd set is great- the packaging is more than you would expect for something from cartoon network and clearly a lot of thought was put into it. I was personally waiting for a season set of this show to come out before I bought anything so I was quite pleased to find this at a very reasonable price. The extras were great fun to watch, although personally I could have done a bit without the awkward cosplay fan reel, but at the same time AT has such bizarrely designed characters that morbid fascination actually made some of the better costumes on the reel not too excessively painful to sit through. The behind-the-scenes bits were also a lot of fun, especially the story boards as well! Overall, I was very, very pleased with this set, and if I had to pick one thing to critique it would be to have more commentaries than there were- they were great fun to listen to. I can't wait for the season two, three, and four sets to come out some day!!
