Everything I read tells me how to increase my Twitter followers and improve my Google analytics for the blog, but none have described how to do the one thing a blogger really needs to do: build a community of readers. Not just droves of 'subscribers' that send you to SPAM, but an actual small army of people who support you, and love your work. I am a part of several 'armies', now that I've read this and realize it, and they are just as fulfilling on the reader end. I love knowing that the person knows me, and I'm not just another statistic adding potential earnings to their PayPal account.
Thanks to Srinivas and his well-practiced words of wisdon, I can build my own small army.
Srini gets this and The Small Army Strategy conveys it with depth and heart. The main premise of the book can be summed up in 1 word: care. (By the way, you're doing it wrong if you care because it builds an audience.)
I had trouble getting through this the Small Army Strategy for the most unusual reason: it was so full of simple and profound statements that I actually had to pause, reflect on it, and take notes, as well as figure out how I was going to share them. The book is concise, engaging, instructive, motivating, and carries the heart of the author, meaning that it represents everything we could ask of a non-fiction book. It's a must-have resource and at the top of the pack along with Seth Godin's Tribes.
If you're serious about building a loyal community of supporters, pick up this book, take notes, and, most importantly, show the people rewarding you with their attention that you care. The rest works itself out.
BAM! Srini delivers a powerful smack in the social media chops, highlighting the importance of being human, being you and being someone who gives a damn about something.
This is absolutely the message that needs to be heard. The antidote to an endless stream of tired old advice from so called "gurus".
You nailed it Srini!
Having met Srini when we both spoke on the stage at Blogworld, one of the things that struck me when I met him was his comfortable laid back demeanor. A energy that comes from someone who is comfortable in their skin.
That is what I also see come across in Srini's writing. It is his attraction factor. Reading The Small Army Strategy will ask you questions that allow you to discover what will your "army" look like. Many times to expand you results, you need to expand your perspective. The Small Army will do that- expand your mind.
So in my frustrated state I took a break, went on a long walk and let go of needing an answer (always a brilliant move!) Later this evening I was on Facebook reading some posts in a new group I just joined for Marie Forleo's upcoming B School training and someone recommended your book, so I clicked on the link and downloaded if from Amazon ....and even though it was 1 AM and I really needed some shuteye, I promptly sat down and read the whole thing!
So THANK YOU for reminding me of what my heart was trying to tell me.....the only thing that matters is that you GIVE A DAMN...and then you, and your tribe will be happy. And that is all.
Having some major gratitude for you Srini and the gift that you be to us little guys who may not reach millions, but nevertheless have something to contribute.
