Product Description

This tin plated copper braid is suitable for use in ground wire applications. This flat braided copper wire is annealed for improved ductility and meets the QQ-W-343 specification for uninsulated wire. This copper braid is suitable for use in wiring applications where no insulation is needed and in ground wire applications.

Electrical wire carries an electric current or grounds an electrical device. The amount of current a wire can carry is proportional to its size (gauge), and the wire is generally sheathed with coatings and coverings to insulate and protect it from moisture, chemicals, heat, and abrasion. Copper is the primary material for electrical wire, but alloys are sometimes used to increase its strength or its resistance to chemicals and the environment. Wire can be composed of a single strand or of many smaller strands, depending on its use, and is typically annealed to improve its ductility. Electrical wire is commonly used in industrial, electronic, and automotive applications.

Just like it's described. Good quality tinned copper braid. Easy to work with. It's not quite as wide as it looks in the photo, but it is substantial enough and works well. I found it very easy to work with and there is plenty of it on the spool. Good product.

I was a little disappointed. The tinned copper braid I purchased years ago when grounding my ham radios was actually the circumferential copper shielding from coax tinned and flattened, therefore it was much more substantial and much more suited to placing over equipment grounding posts.

This is just one layer of tinned braid. I felt more comfortable doubling the end of the braid and soldering it at the end to be pierced and placed over the grounding posts. One could also just solder the "frayed" end after cutting the braid to length I suppose.

I used this to ground my wires under the hood. The old straps where worn right out. I went to auto store and they wanted $7.95 for a 6" piece with two ends on it. Ya ok,, I bought this and made my own and saved allot of money.

This product serves well enough for ground strap. A note of caution, several spots along the edge of the braid was frayed. Several issues evolve: Cut hands when paying it out; mechanically weakened; derate if you expect to carry much current through it; arcing from loose strands when high voltage is present -- do not use in this application.

Have this for making battery packs rather than using the little connecter bars that are soldered to the cells. Seems OK but nothing spectacular. Although it could be me. I was hoping to make one continuous link per side and it gets bulky.

This is highly flexible braid. Its most common use is for RF grounds for radios or antennas. It will *not* serve as lightning protection for antennas. Because of the "skin effect" of RF, solid wire doesn't conduct RF well. Braid increases the surface area, and makes an excellent conductor for radio frequencies. Grounds between a power supply and a radio should also be joined with braid.

Braid is also useful for draining static charges from antennas, but not at the voltages and levels found in lightning. The tinning makes it very easy to solder and protects against corrosion somewhat. Remember, copper is soft. Exterior runs should be secured so that the braid is not constantly flexed by wind and breaks.

I have also seen this used in gardening, oddly enough. A stiff, bare copper wire is placed vertically about ten feet above the ground, soldered to the braid, and the braid is run into a metal stake pounded into the earth. This drains static charges from the surrounding air, which damages plants of all kinds. Without it, your plants are the conductor. I found this quite interesting.
