I purchased this light when I bought my 30' above ground pool package in the spring of 2011. I did not get the pool set up and start using the light until July of 2011. It worked that summer and I took it down and stored it inside for the winter. It worked the summer of 2012 and again I stored it in the winter. This summer it began going off after a few minutes (15-30) of use. I thought it was the bulb. I really felt I needed a 100w light to fully light my 30' foot pool. If you aren't careful, buying a new MR16 100w replacement bulb can cost half as much as a whole new light. I was able to find some bulbs that would work on Amazon for about $9. I put the new bulb in (which was even brighter than the original) and it does the same thing. The unit will just shut off. The LED on the transformer stays lit. You can turn the switch off for 5 minutes and then turn it back on and it will work for a while longer. It is almost as if it is over heating. I contacted the company (Smartpool.com) and was told the product ONLY has a 6 month warranty and basically I am out of luck. When the light works, it works great. But be advised this product is "DISPOSABLE". If you get two summer's of use out of it you are doing good. I guess I will have to buy a whole new light and since the companies who make them are few and far between, I will be forced to buy another one just like it. Although, I might consider the LED model next time. I guess when a company has no competition, they have no incentive to put any quality or customer service into their product.

I followed the instructions perfectly. But within a few hours the light was filled with water. Removed it so it could dry out. Reassembled again following the instructions but it filled with water again. Never even got to turn it on. Also, the pool light bracket didn't fit under side rail very well, left a big bulge.

this is a really great light! it was expensive so I was hesitant but worth every penny. only negative comment is that we couldn't put the ledge of the pool back on fully because the light was sticking up too much but a small price to pay to have a beautifully lit pool for night swimming.. awesome!

I received the light just a few days after purchase. It was super easy to install and lights up my 15' x 30' pool very nicely. Pros: Easy install (you have to place the light in the middle of the pool rail so that it allows for the rail cap to be screwed back on; if you place it to close to the cap, you won't get the rail back on, you'll only notice a little hump in the middle because of the mounting bracket). Illuminates the pool just fine. Cons: Missing tool that's suppose to tighten/loosen lens ring, Marker on lens ring does not line up properly for water tight seal, No instruction on placement/removal of color lens covers. If you follow the instructions for tightening the lens cover, it states that you should not over-tighten and line up the arrow with the support bracket. If you do this the lens is too loose and does not lock in place (this may allow water to enter light chamber). So I just hand tightened until the lens clicked into one of the teeth and backed up a little to ensure it does not get loose. I placed the light on the side of my pool, and it looks fine but I want to place it on the end of the pool tonight to see if I get more even lighting throughout (I will post results later). I first used the white lens by itself and it was rather bright at the 15' width; I then held the blue, green and red covers over the lens to test the effects, and they all looked good -The red is a little darker. Nice to have the different choices for different moods/occasions. I'm using the blue now because it's not so bright, but I may change it depending on the illumination when I move the light to the end of the pool. The color lens covers that came with the unit just snap over the outside of the lens cap. The only thing is; I'm a little worried that when I remove it, I might crack it.Read more ›

If the light goes out after being on awhile then goes back on...IT"S PROBABLY NOT YOUR TRANSFORMER! This happened to my light as well. Thought it was the transformer so bought another Intermatic transformer to hook the light fixture to it. It didn't work. I thought...that's strange..a brand new transformer...the darn thing must be defective. Then I CAREFULLY connected just a new bulb directly to the new transformer DC leads...it lit the bulb! Something wrong with the LIGHT FIXTURE! I drilled out the two things on the light fixture holding the bulb socket in the fixture and found an overload (heat) lever tab underneath was the issue. The overload "lever" contact was either dirty or it flexed up too much and stayed there after a heat event. I cleaned the lever contacts ( w/ some emery cloth) and then put a small amount of solder on the contacts to re-allow contact but still "flex" for a overheat event. Re-secured the bulb socket plate with some "Water Weld" epoxy. Now I have an extra transformer!

Took a chance on this product and lost. Installed into pool exactly as instructed and worked great for 2 hours. After that the power supply overheats and has to be turned off for 10 minutes. Then it works again for 10 -15 minutes and then overheats. Cycle keeps repeating itself. There is no timer on power supply that can be adjusted that causes this. It just overheats. Sent in for repair and still waiting.....

Update 10/01/2013: Smart Pool was helpful in resolving this issue. I have received a new replacement. Hopefully I won't have the same issue.
