From the Back Cover
Why should an entrepreneur (YOU!) read this book? Would you like to be fully versed in the strategies and tactics that an investor may deploy prior to your investment meetings? Wouldn't you like to perfectly present your ideas, visions, or plans during these meetings? Many good ideas have failed because they did not receive adequate funding and the would-be entrepreneurs never get to realize their dream(s). This book will empower you, the entrepreneur, to build a solid foundation for your company. The entrepreneur who follows these guidelines will be better prepared to engage with and negotiate with potential investors and thus be able to retain as much equity as possible while securing the necessary funding to succeed.
In The Smart Entrepreneur, Rocky Arnold, entrepreneur, and former CEO of a public company, lays out a systematic approach for aspiring entrepreneurs to follow so they may avoid the many pitfalls associated with technology start-up and early-stage companies. As he explains, investors often have the upper hand when it comes to the company valuation and investment. The Smart Entrepreneur provides specific actionable guidance to help entrepreneurs realize their vision, maximize pre-money valuations, secure funding, and preserve founder equity.

The book takes you through a serious process-based approach to understanding your business and how to best move it forward. The book in itself is a process if you follow the ideation stage through to no-nonsense ways to prepare to work with the VC’s culminating with dealing with all the investor types you will meet on the way.
I liked the last chapter because it takes you back to the reasons you started your business in the first place by asking you about your vision and mission statements.
A great read for early stage startups and a reference for those of us in the incubator/accelerator field.
Having been a part of several startup companies in the past, the information contained within this book would have been invaluable to those companies during some tough decision moments. I plan to keep this book close by at all times.
