Product Description

Product Description

Smart Balance Bike by Smart Gear is one of the best investments you will make for your child. Our Balance Bikes, or training bike, first and foremost help a child develop the most important skills necessary to ride a traditional bicycle with pedals: BALANCE and MOTOR SKILLS.

Smart Balance Bikes were designed to develop a child's balance and coordination by simply allowing the child to sit and walk or run with the bike by pushing with their feet. If the bike starts to fall, kids instinctively regain their balance using their feet. Once they gain some momentum and balance control they can lift their feet up as they feel comfortable and start cruising! Toddler bikes with "training wheels" don't necessarily train or teach a child how to ride a bicycle. The training wheels are merely a crutch that give the child a false sense of security and merely keep the child busy or entertained rather than actually helping the child develop the necessary skills to ride a bicycle.

Smart Balance Bikes are also suitable for children who need to be encouraged with motor skill development and therapeutic training.

From the Manufacturer

Smart balance bikes by Smart Gear, often referred to as “run bikes” or “balance bikes”, which are pedal free and without training wheels, first and foremost help a child develop the most important skills necessary to later ride a 2 wheel bicycle with pedals, balance and motor skills. Smart balance bikes were designed to develop a child’s balance and coordination by simply allowing the child to sit and walk or run with the bike by pushing with their feet. If the bike starts to fall, kids instinctively regain their balance using their feet. Once they’ve gained some momentum and balance control they can lift their feet up as they feel comfortable and start cruising. Traditional toddler bikes with “training wheels” don’t necessarily train or teach a child how to ride a bicycle. The training wheels are merely a crutch that give the child a false sense of security and merely keep the child busy or entertained rather than actually helping the child develop the necessary skills to ride a bicycle. Smart balance bikes are also suitable for children who need to be encouraged with motor skill development and therapeutic training. Smart balance bikes are made from birch wood with real inflatable rubber tires, handle bar grips, cushioned leatherette seat and a unique carry handle incorporated in the bikes body. Helps develop motor skills, balance and coordination. Builds self confidence. Convenient carry handle. Inflatable rubber tires. Made in China with wood harvested from a replenishable source, strictly using non-toxic paints, dyes, lacquers and formaldehyde free glue. Packaging is made from at least 70% recycled paper.

I've wanted to buy a balance bike since my oldest was 3 but hesitated, as they are expensive here in Canada and hard to find. So this was perfect, the bike shipped as estimated, and it was so easy to put together and the seat adjustment is easy. It is adorable and very sturdy, my now 5 yr old has another bike but my second daughter is now 3 and she loves it. While we have to wait until spring to try it outside, they are having fun indoors with it. I would highly recommend this bike for 3 and up, could prob even be used by a 2 yr old who's solid on their feet as it is pretty safe - much safer then the tricycle we have. Very happy with it.

I am so in love with this bike! It is absolutely gorgeous (mine did have butterflies on the wheels; another reviewer noted that hers did not), and my daughter is amazing on it. She was tentative at first, but within a week, she is coasting along so fast! She loves trying to go faster and faster. We haven't had a spill on it yet, either, despite her being surprised by a couple of small slopes. I participated in a Kickstarter campaign for another balance bike that is a complete disaster, at more than twice the price!!! Sure wish I'd seen this bike 18 months ago, which is when I wanted to buy a balance bike. My dd is now almost 4, but I decided to get this anyway to get her up and biking quickly, and it's working out great. At age 4 (and maybe 38" tall), she is on the next to highest seat level. While this was pricey to pay for only a few months, when she'll graduate to a pedal bike (with no training wheels!), it's still a beautiful investment. Not sure I'll be able to get rid of it when the time comes, just because it looks so good!

Love the design of these bikes (my 5.5 yr old still loves his, which he's had for 3.5 yrs now!), but be aware that the product arrives without any design on the wooden wheels.

I was a little disappointed that there are no butterflies on the wheels - I was attracted to that feature...

We ordered this balance bike as a birthday present for our 3 yr old daughter. I currently live out in Germany and have seen so many toddlers out and about on their balance bikes having a great time. I was somewhat nervous to not get a bike with training wheels and was afraid our little one would fall too often. I'm happy to say my fears were totally unfounded!

It took our daughter about a day to figure out the steering and how to control the bike but after that, she was good to go. She LOVES the thing! Within one day she already started lifting her legs and gained more confidence.

I like the fact that it's pretty lightweight and easy enough for me to carry in case she wants to get off and run around to explore. It's also not really bulky so we can just toss it in our car and bring it wherever we go.

Great purchase!

Donated it to our son's children's center a couple of weeks ago to honor our friend's retirement from the center, and they absolutely love it. The Spring Fever Design is a colorful and gender neutral pattern. Had an inquiry today from another parent about where we got the bike, it's so popular. The Smart Gear balance bike appears durable and we like that is safer than taking the pedals off a normal bike for young toddlers as It has no gear, chain, or spokes. The Smart Gear design is a tad safer than the Skuut, as there are no holes in the wheels to poke little curious fingers through. Also, the reviews I found mentioned Smart Gear's customer service is fabulous.

Dad said assembly was super easy, "just two bolts and done."

The bike is great, the only issue I had was that the seat cover was not well done. It gaped underneath between the staples and I fixed it with super glue. Once that was taken care of, it was the hit of the party.
