Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.
My daughter has a very short attention span when it comes to learning her letters and numbers, and really has absolutely no interest in reading actual words, lol. She just doesn't have the patience a lot of the time... until we found this.
Originally I was torn on whether or not to get it due to the mixed reviews... I noticed many seemed a bit offended by the stories involved, but I went ahead and gave it a try all the same.
My daughter thoroughly enjoyed it! Sure, some of the characters in the stories were rather shady, but honestly, I cannot think of one show on TV... or any fairy tales for that matter that don't involve a shady character, and a LOT of the ones I see have death involved to some extent... maybe on a lighter note in some, but not in all... so there really wasn't a huge difference. She can now recognize her letters... still won't sit down to write them with a pencil, or really work on it, lol, but it was a step closer.
I can say that this game was a delight for me as a child, I still have fond memories of it. Keep in mind though that the stories are reasonably darker than most American folktales as the game is originally Japanese and this is created for that audience rather than an American one. There are mentions of death and displays of the cruelty of man, which some may argue are necessary lessons for your child while others may want to hold off for awhile. It's all up to you, but I can say from experience it didn't irreversibly mess me up at all. Other than keeping me up past my bedtime most nights to try and play no harm no foul.
I have purchased all of the Smart Girls games, and would give every one of them 5 stars - except this one. I would give it zero stars if that was an option. I expected sweet, innocent, child-oriented stories and was surprised when my 5 year old daughter came to me - twice - crying about the story she'd just heard. One story was about devils in the sky that created an evil mirror that crashed to the earth and changed anyone that was pierced by the glass pieces into a mean person. This was scary to her. I was surprised by the story itself as well as the inclusion of religious messages in the story. The second story that upset her so much was about a boy, his dog, and his grandpa. All three of them died because they were too poor to buy medicine and food, and no one would help them. This really broke my daughter's heart.
If I want to read my daughter stories that teach her sad, hard lessons, or if I want to read her stories that teach her my own religious beliefs, I prefer to pick the stories, the time and the place. I did not expect a child's game to include such serious topics. I was expecting light-hearted, fun, entertaining stories in this children's game, and maybe some "moral of the story" type plots. I am extremely disappointed in this product, and in the fact that there was no warning as to the types of stories contained within. I have removed this game from her game case and have not listened to the rest of the stories. I am writing this so that other parents have fair warning, and can be better informed before they spend money on this game.
Okay read the title of the post. This is a Japanese game. If you have not read Japanese or Asian fairytales then DO NOT buy this game. It is a translated game which means it was created for a Japanese child. Their fairytales are not always sweet and fluffy as American fairy tales. I say American because the original Grimm's tales are not sweet and furry either. This will teach life lesson just like the description says, but they will have hard life lessons including but not limited to death and hardship and that there is evil in the world. Another word of advice so you do not receive any surprise go through the game with your child; your child will enjoy it more that way and you can decide what stories they hear. Also this allows you to shut off the game if you feel a story is teaching your child something you do not want them to learn. It will teach a religious aspect as Grimm's Fairy Tales have a Christian undertone; theses will have Buddhist or Shinto undertones. In the description it say classic tales or stories and they are classic's of a different culture. All in all this game is great for children between 3 and 5 or people who just like fairy tales.
I thought this was educational, and I'm just not seeing it. It's definently anime characters and the stories are just crazy. All of the stories have tons of BUDDHIST undertones which I completely not teaching in my household. If I had known I would not have bought this game... Wish I had known this before hand.
Do not waste you $. This is definently not made for 3-5 year olds!!!
My young daughter loves this game. We’ve had it for a few years and it’s still going with no troubles ever. It’s easy for kids to learn and don’t require parents to help all the time
