we love smart snacks, but not this banana
on December 30, 2011
as a preschool teacher with a 2 year old i love all of these smart snack toys. we started with the ice cream set (the rubbery material that they are made from is awesome) and we are slowly collecting the whole set for my son's play kitchen.
as other reviews have said: i love the size and weight, perfect for little hands; i love the counting seeds paired with the numeral; i love that it's a set of healthy fruit; i love the puzzle aspect; my son loves to mix up the fruit salad in the huge mixing bowl!
i DO NOT however, like the banana at all. all of the other peices of fruit (except for the strawberry) feature tangible seeds that the child can count and associate with the printed number, however the banana only has the number: no seeds. all of the other fruits have magnets to hold them together when the child gets them in the right order; the banana must be forced together, and even when forced the lines of the peel don't line up which makes you think you've done it improperly.
i've put the banana away, if it wasn't for the fact that we'd be missing #3 in the set i would have thrown it out. it's frustrating and isn't the same quality as the rest of the set and the smart snacks line.
