I love the idea of how this engages students to think critically. The pieces and discretions were nicely made. However, it was extremely challenging to put the pieces in the correct order, so much so that adults struggled.
I got this for a niece - aaaand...yeah, I really should have gotten her the Three Little Piggies game instead. She would have had more success with that game (she's age 6, but isn't really into logic games like her parents are).
THIS game is super-duper fun. However! It's challenging. Like many logic puzzles, it can range from the 'What even!???' to the 'OMG, so obvious, how did I not see?' And that's the fun, right?
The lower level puzzles are fairly straightforward. You look in the book, and attempt to re-create the picture with the moving ice-tile-pieces. It's a sort of adjustable ice tetris.
The master levels though - whoa! I got stuck on the first one. And with these type of puzzles, you can either "see" the solution - or just not. I struggled with it, then my hubby came over, then his brother joined in and we all stared at it and poked around until we finally found the answer. And we're all big on these kind of games (2 programmers and 1 philosopher), so yeah, this was a beast. BUT! I love these kind of puzzles. It was fun.
I raised up my girls with SmartGames. This is one of the games they worked on in early ages. The good thing about these games is that it starts at easy levels and does not frustrate little kids. But it gets to very challenging, even for adults. I always let them solve the puzzle independently. For the some of challenges, they needed a break and return to the challenge on the second day. They are 8 years old now. Teachers and friends constantly comment on their logical reasoning abilities, for which I can clearly see where they get.
I got this for my 5 year old and she loves it. My 7 year old and I enjoy it as well. The pieces slide really well. Everything is good quality. I'm very happy with my purchase.
It's a great game and the concept of developing thinking skills and strategic planning are all achieved. My kids are enjoying all levels of the challenges. The base is a nice heavy weight plastic that doesn't slide around while putting in the pieces. The pieces are great for small hands. But the "storage" part is lacking! The directions say to 1-put the direction book on the game board 2-then place the puzzle pieces on top of the booklet and here's the ridiculous part..... 3- Put the plastic lid ( that the game came packed in ) over the game board and secure it all with the provided elastic strap. Really??? Such a purposeful game devolping logical thinking yet they couldn't develop a more logical solution for storing it ?
Bought this game for my kids (6 & 8 years old). They loved it very much, a lot of good puzzles to solve in different levels so anyone can enjoy it (heck I even played it myself and enjoyed)
The only thing that bother me is the feeling of the plastic, feels like it can break very easly (althought it did not so far)
I bought this for my 6 year old and he LOVED it. He got through the first sets pretty quickly and then started getting frustrated as they got harder, but it was a great way to get him thinking. It's wonderful for problem solving. I'm always trying to find new ways to keep my boys entertained without resorting to TV and video games, and this was definitely a hit. He's definitely getting frustrated with the harder levels, but I'm looking forward to the lessons in patience and persistence as well! And since he's getting stuck on Junior level puzzles, I'm expecting this will be a long lasting game to get through ALL the levels. Would definitely recommend.
I love the idea of how this engages students to think critically. The pieces and discretions were nicely made. However, it was extremely challenging to put the pieces in the correct order, so much so that adults struggled.

SmartGames are terrific! Great ideas, well made. I have a 4 year old and 6 year old and they love single player challenge games (less competition!). This game is well constructed, easy to learn and is challenging enough that I think it will keep my kids (and myself!) entertained for a long time (this was a birthday present for my daughter a month ago). We also have Camelot Jr. (bought 1 year ago) and Trucky 3 (bought 3 months ago) from SmartGames and I would highly recommend all games from SmartGames.
