About the Author
After a rich professional career of over 46 years as a nurse in public health, adult nurse practitioner, teacher and researcher Ute Goldkuhle yearned to pass along her gifts of education, knowledge, wisdom and experience. During her years of practice and holding community workshops she realized that once people understood better how their own body functions they were more mindful of what they need to make life style adjustments to enhance their health quality. Ute Goldkuhle earned a doctorate in Public Health at the University of Hawaii at Manoa and a master’s degree in Primary Care as an Adult Nurse Practitioner at the University of Maryland. Throughout the years of practice she held various leadership positions in hospitals and homecare agencies, developed community programs, workshops, and health systems. She retired as an Assistant Professor after 16 years of teaching at the University of Hawaii, School of Nursing and lives in Cleveland, OH and enjoys the unfolding life of her precious six grandchildren.

This book should be required reading for every woman over the age of 40 and all women who are overweight or sedentary. We take our hearts for granted because they just keep on ticking. The problem is, with each of the issues above, I ignored the healthy things Ms. Goldkuhle's book recommends. (Did I mention I also had Rheumatic Fever as a child?) The cards have all lined up for 69 years and I've ignored them. It was my job to take care of everyone else. There has never been a time in my life where I've placed myself first.
Like Ms. Goldkuhle, I want to see my grandchildren grow up. I received this book as a gift. Obviously, I have a dear friend who has seen the damage I've done trying to be all things to all people, except for myself. This is my time. I will follow the recommendations in this book, plan my stress strategies, and learn to create a better balance in my life. My heart now deserves my full attention and so does yours. Just remember, you're not going to be able to help anyone after a debilitating or fatal heart attack.
This guide provides a no-nonsense approach to handling strss, diet, and activity that is very Do-able. Tha tcombined with the information of how each of these affect a woman's heart-health is very vaulable information. Most valuable ot me was learning how stress can affect my overall heart-health and ways that I can adjust my behavior to cope with that the stress that is a very real part of every woman's life!
