Cats have an instinctual desire to watch cracks and crevices, especially when they know that something is hiding just beyond their sight. The Peek-A-Play Toy Box is designed to build on your cat's instinct by partially hiding some of your cat’s favorite toys, and your cat will go crazy fishing them out. Peek-A-Play is especially great for those times when you have to leave your cat home alone, because this toy will keep your cat occupied for hours. Rotate the toys in the box so they are always digging for something different, and for extra fun, put a few food treats inside.

Other than the nails, it is of good craftsmanship and would have been four stars for me.
Once the cats understand how this works, they remove the balls easily. So I dropped in some stuffed mice, other size balls and some Temptation treats (a couple in each hole) then sat back and I was as entertained watching them as they were with discovering this new toy.
You don't have to spend money on things to add to the box. Wad up a bit of aluminum foil just enough to get it into the box but HARD to get it out of the box (it makes noise and they enjoy it)! It will keep the busy a LOT longer than the balls. LOL Make sure to monitor so that they don't fray it and/or ingest the aluminum. You can also do paper the same way...just tighter. You can even add a bit of catnip to make it more interesting. I was able to get this at half of retail and thought it was so great that I even bought one for a friend and her cats. Though I think this works better with more than one cat, I would recommend it to anyone who has a playful, curious kitten and then add different items to the maze to keep them curious about it. Big 5 Stars!
How much they play with it is VERY dependent on what toys I've stocked it with. One goes crazy for those plastic springs- she likes to carefully extract them and then bat them around and POUNCE. The other one prefers milk bottle rings, but for the same reason.
I've had it put away for a while because they were getting bored; it's time to bring it out again and re-stock it... and maybe add some kitty treats to keep them interested.
I love the sturdiness, and that it's not made of cardboard, which one of my playful cats could squash if he sat on it (he's a big lad!).
Highly recommended! Plus, I see there's a somewhat smaller version if this one is just too large.
