One minimalist interface. Infinite possibilities.
SmartHalo’s circular interface has been designed to keep you focused on what matters: the road.
Simple yet versatile, this luminous halo can guide you around, track your fitness goals and much more.
Intuitive GPS Navigation to Get to Point B
Once you select a destination in the app, SmartHalo will guide you to your destination using intuitive turn-by-turn signals or with compass-style navigation. Keep your eyes on the road and your hands on the handlebar.
Automatic Front Light to See and Be Seen
At night, SmartHalo's front light will turn on automatically when you start riding. As soon as you leave your bike behind, the front light will turn off automatically. You can also turn it on and off manually.
And Alarm System That Protects Your Bike
SmartHalo stays on your bike all the time. When you leave your bike, SmartHalo will make sure that any movement or vibration triggers a loud 110dB alarm. Keep bike thieves at bay.
Stay Healthy With Automatic Fitness
As soon as you start biking, SmartHalo will start tracking your time, distance, average speed and calories. No need to press stop at the end, because SmartHalo detects the end of your ride and stops monitoring. You can set goals and see them in real time directly on the device.
Improve Your Commute With The Assistant
Enhance your bike ride with call notifications, a visual clock and a bell.

In terms of mounting the SmartHalo device to the Citibike, I found that the SmartHalo works well when combined with a flexible tripod and an adapter cell phone mount (as seen in the photo). This allows me to clamp it to the handlebars of the bike share, without any other special equipment. I’d use this at your own discretion, because it’s a system I came up with and not SmartHalo. This is a super useful technique for me, because I can use the SmartHalo with the NYC bike share system while on the go, and with other bike share systems while traveling.
This is another case where SmartHalo shines: navigating in unfamiliar cities. It’s great to have a device that I can carry with me that can guide me around. The app is particularly helpful in this regard, as it allows me to select different possible routes, including “Fastest” and “Safest”.
I have been happy with this purchase, and I look forward to following the future development of SmartHalo.
The antitheft function really helped with wanting my bike to be safe unattended, and has even been in some good rain that never did damage. The only thing is you can only know if someone set the alarm off when you get back but not as it's happening so you can go to your bike. I never had anything happen but it was a little bothersome.
The ride tracking was pretty good even without knowing about strava, but it groups the rides for one day together and you can't tell how each ride went. The navigation was pretty good too, can't really complain about that.
The notification thing that shows your phone has a notification would be better if I could set the text to a different app, because there's only one person I did send texts too where everyone else was on a message app. The call one was fine though.
The alarm is good but sometimes it's a pain to unlock it, especially if I set it off by accident. Countless times I've been really close to setting off the alarm by trying to unlock but failing a bunch of times.
The light is just plain useless, not very powerful at all. Even after turning the settings to manually turn the light on I still turned it on by accident so many times.
The speed tracking only works if you are recording a ride, so on commutes where I wanted the speed anyway wasn't an option without turning on tracking.
It was a pain to unlock and take it off after a while, too. (Taking it off to charge it)
At one point I even had it completely fall of my handlebars, so I went back and grabbed it to see that the plastic broke along with the device not working anymore.
It was nice to have for a while and helped me track my speed and give me peace of mind, but after a while it decided to commit seppuku within a mile from my house. I gave it an extra star because it actually served its purpose, but it didn't last.
E-bike conversion kit $160
Battery to run the bike $380
Other miscellaneous bike stuff $180
Putting an alarm on over $1,000 worth of bike stuff... priceless.
I got the Smart Halo mostly because I wanted an alarm on my E-Bike. I spent a little more on the Halo over other alarm systems because of all the other goodies. Less than a week after I got it installed, I got a targeted ad directing me to Kickstarter for the Halo 2.... damn timing.... The Halo 1 is a little difficult to figure out. You can connect with it via you phone to give it instructions, then you can communicate with it literally with morse code. 4 short taps will direct you to your work address. 3 short taps will direct you to home, 4 long taps will end navigation mode.
I had the opportunity to use the light in the dark last night, it was significantly better than nothing, but not what I would call good. More importantly however, I had forgotten a flashlight and if it wasn't there, I could have been pulled over, so that was nice.
100% anyone who does a lot of biking should get one, but.... at this point, you might as well wait for the second generation to be released.

Super easy to setup and connect to my iPhone. Each one comes with its own little key which means only you can unlock it from the handlebars. In the app you programme where you are going and straight away SH will start directing you. I love the light system which shows you both gentle or hard corners, it also flashes when you’re getting closer so you know when to turn.
Takes a few rides but stick with it, you get used to it. When the battery needs charging, just use that key to pop it off and take it inside to charge with micro-USB.
The light works great. There is also a security aspect which will alert you and set off an alarm of someone tries to steal the bike - PERFECT for London where I’ve had my bike stolen before.
Still lots to explore, but I love my Smart Halo. Would def recommend for anyone or as a great gift for someone else.

The light output isn’t brilliant, but it’s okay for what it is.
For iOS, the smart halo can record your ride, and add data into the health app and sync it with your Apple Watch ring progress. This is useful as with the Apple Watch, cycling is not auto detected. You can switch this on or off via the app.
Fitment was great for me, It is a little bulky, but if you don’t need the height extensions it’s not too bad. My only other issue is the screen isn’t really bright enough in sunny weather, you can see it, but barely.
For iPhone, you may need to actually open the app, as the automatic Bluetooth connection isn’t enough - if the smart halo app isn’t running in the background. And iOS kills background apps after a while.
It's a remarkably simple concept, and remarkably simple to use once you have 'bonded' with it. What I'm getting at is that it uses ingenious design and technology to do what it does, and you will be rewarded by reading the instructions thoroughly, playing with it, and understanding how it does what it does.
I love it.
