But lo and behold, it is not only an easy read, but it is full of visuals that support Gundgaards findings so do not be deterred by the many pages. And I would presume that most people in my position would use it a reference work when building og test websites.
The book is very much based on comprehensive studies so everything is based on the experiences of many people testing different sites, although I caught myself thinking a few times - well this is just his opionion, but then it was immediately backed up by data.
You can easily get lost in all the different findings and feel a bit bewildered on how to approach it yourself, but the author clearly thought about this, because each section ends with a "best practise" way of doing it which is nice summary of all the findings before and then everything clicks into place.
There were, however, a part which I did not find nearly as valuable as the rest and that was the section on the customer's first impression. Mainly because their first impression could be coloured by their view on the specific brand "Zalando, Debenhams" etc and that is not really mentioned. However, it is a very small part of the book and does not impede on the main findings of the book.
I would have liked to see the electronic version use more of its potential when displaying all the visuals. For instance, when we see a before and after visual of a mobile page it would be great if I was able to click it and then have a more visual feel of what has changed.
One of the strong points that really enforce why you should absolutely pay attention to the flow on a smartphone, is the author's comparison of the shopping experience on the desktop and then the smartphone. A case where it is clearly demonstrated that Amazons smartphone experience needs some maintenance.
I suggest that Jeff Bezoz pony up the 4$ and bye Benjamins book - I'm sure it can make a great difference to Amazons conversion rate on mobile. (Hey, Amazon might even give the man a discount :)
For everyone else in the business of e-commerce it's a must read book as well.
The new methodology turned out to be very well structured around all the best-practice elements of how to build a mobile e-commerce web shop. Each chapter begins with insights from user tests of some of the world’s largest mobile web shops, followed by best-practice guidelines as well as implementation-ready templates.
Having read this methodology, I now view mobile web shops with brand new eyes, based on a complete framework of how to build the home page, the navigation, filters, search, product pages, the shopping cart, the checkout flow, etc.
One of the books major strengths is that it can be read from beginning to the end, and then afterwards easily used as a reference point where you quickly can look up a solution to a specific problem.
I can thus highly recommend “Smartphone E-commerce" to anyone who wants to be prepared for the mobile e-commerce revolution!
The book is extremely user-friendly so everyone can understanding. Even for a technology and design challenged guy like myself. And probably also full of valuable learnings for experienced people and experts, I bet.
Full of real life examples and comprehensive walkthroughs of improvement areas, best practices and examples. Easy to understand and implement.
While traffic and number of users are high on the agenda for most online businesses, smartphone design and commerce should be equally important. For me, there was a lot of low hanging fruits to pick from with this book.
You can start from scratch, follow the book and build your E-commerce site, or use it as a dictionary for optimizing your site.
Benjamin Gundgaard really knows how to get the best out of an E-commerce site, how to satisfy the customer enough to get a great sale, and customer experience. Its very useful because it contains a lot of examples, and a “best practise” of what to do and don’t.
I would certainly recommend this book to anyone who is in a position within marketing, sale or management, to get a holistic view of, how to maximize their E-commerce site.
Regardless of the level of expertise, this book has something for everybody working with e-commerce. I bought several copies of the hard copy and distributed as must-reads / must-complys to our digital team
Finally it came as e-book too so I can bring it with me always for reference
It is one of the most practical and comprehensive books I have read on e-commerce, and the book is filled with practical insights that you can implement straight away.
The book gives you contains more than 50 templates and well over 270 specific guidelines on how to build a complete mobile web shop.
Regardless of the level of expertise, this book has something for everybody working with e-commerce, so I am sure it will give you full value for your money, as it did for me!
