However, buy a pair and they are quite amazing. I recently decided to upgrade my undies drawer, and I bought 1 pair each of several high-end boxer briefs. These were the most expensive I tried, but I own a couple of other smartwool items (long sleeve baselayer tops) that are great, so I bit the bullet and gave these a shot. I wasn't disappointed.
What makes these great? Simply put, they have the moisture wicking and general "clean" feeling of synthetic fibers, yet are just as comfy and cool as cotton. The other high end competitors I tried at the same time were the patagonia capilene (I also own several capilene baselayer tops and like them too), which I didn't really like as a boxer brief - they just felt too "synthetic" and not comfortable like my old cheap cotton Champions. I also tried the very well reviewed ex-officios, and also highly reviewed Saxx Ultras. The Ex officios were good, but again felt somewhat "synthetic" and not as soft or comfortable as the smartwools. The Saxx, well, their claim to fame are these weird elastic wings, sort of like a built in jockstrap, that are supposed to support your sac and keep it in place ... I found this not necessary and kind of weird. I'll include links to all of these below. Bottom line though, the smartwools had the best combination of comfort plus moisture wicking and general "clean" even after wearing all day (whereas cotton gets kind of sweaty and gross). Also note I live in FL, am a profuse sweater, and I find these sufficiently cool ... as cool or cooler than any of the competitors I mentioned plus my old cotton champions.Read more ›
Less than six months and probably less than 15 washes there is a big hole. Not along a seam but right where my special friends hang out. I would say not really a high friction point as compared to the seat.
Loved them during their short life but will not buy again. Maybe stick to socks smartwool.
Perfect purchase for men and women!

Comfortable. But size ran too big. Dried relatively well. Would buy again but if in doubt, get the smaller size.Published 2 months ago by David Leibowitz
Super comfy, seem durable, fit large so but a size smaller than normal, breathable odor free, perfect for backpacking would highly recommendPublished 3 months ago by Cheryl B. Crotser

Easy to wash and dry relatively fast. Wool feels comfortable against skin - not itchy. No odor which is amazing. Only issue for me was the loose fit that rode up on me. Read morePublished 8 months ago by cp64
