These are great socks. They feel great, high quality and good cushion.

I have two critiques:

1) Slightly narrow. It makes it feel like my "pinky" toe is being forced towards the middle of my foot. So it give s a slightly cramped feeling. I recommend, if you have slightly wide to wide feet, you may need to go a size bigger than normal.

2) I bought these for summer. They are light for sure, but more of a more of a warm-ish weather sock not a hot weather. If it gets above 75*, too much warmth for me.

Enjoy!

unfortunately, these are the last pair of smartwool socks that i will buy - at least until Smartwool makes them more durable. at first they were very comfortable - i loved them, breathable yet warm, but as you can see, in a matter of a couple of months, the fabric and cushion on the bottom of the socks got completely worn out.

Wool from the cushioning kept coming off everytime i would take these off and that's how they got to this point - the worn out areas are left with no cushion, just a thin 'screen' like layer of fabric. this happened to all my 6 smartwool pairs. at first i thought it was just random, but when they all turned like this, i knew it's a durability issue. by now i've found another brand that makes similar socks at the same price range but their socks dont have this problem. Smartwool please fix this problem!

4.5/5
Thick solid socks, very comfortable and keep the shape. The quality is unmatched.
Sizing is on the smaller side. I'm M9.5 US and Large (9-11.5) are pretty tight for me.
Wicking is good, but after a mile walk, which I do every day I can feel the sweat under them. Better then $1/pair but not as good as you might think after reading some reviews.
I got them at "buy one, get one free" sale, which I think is just the fair price for them with the given MSRP.

I purchased a pair of these socks for my son as a stocking stuffer at Christmas. I have purchased other types of SmartWool socks and have loved them, though they are a bit pricey. My son wore them twice, washed them according to the directions, and they developed a hole in the toes on one sock and on the heel in the other. These were not worth the $23 I paid for them and I will not purchase again.

It took a nasty cast of swamp foot to wake me up to the value of good socks. I have tried a variety of aftermarket (i.e. Non-issue) socks and always come back to Smarteool. From long humps to leisure activities, these are the socks that you want.

Smart… WOOL. Not.
The problem with these, as with just about all smartwool socks (and other brands, too,) is that they are 30-40% acrylic or other synthetic fibers and never more than 70% wool.

If anyone finds a light hiking sock out there that is closer to 80-85% wool, please comment and let me know. It makes a difference if you really want wool. Synthetic fibers trap my foot sweat in unpleasant ways…

Given that these perform about as well as other socks in the genre and I haven't found something much superior, I would give 3 or 3.5 stars if not for the price. Charge $14 for these and they will get more stars.

These socks are amazing. I bought a pair of these and a pair of Wigwams for a trip to Guatemala, and these socks met (and exceeded) expectations. They're well-made, durable, and comfortable. They kept my feet dry up the side of mountains, around town, in the sun, and in a pair of casual leather shoes that breathe about as well as my grandmother (she's dead). My feet were warm, but not uncomfortably so. I was able to wear them for 4 days, hiking the entire time, and still was able to remove my shoes without fear of stinking everything up. On the way home, I took my shoes off in the airplane and I don't think anybody even noticed they are THAT good. The price per pair is fairly steep, but I'm going to slowly and steadily weed out all my other socks and replace them all with these bad boys.
