Despite being somewhat outdated the book has practical advice on how to market the books and to take advantage of the Smashwords platform tools. I also found the marketing tips useful, some of them are things that I would have thought on my own,others were new to me ideas.
If you publish with Amazon KDP there is no exclusivity agreement and you can use other publishers. However, Amazon KDP Select (with its benefits) requires exclusivity. Amazon monitors other platforms and your book will disqualified if they find it on other channels. Be aware that unpublishing the book does not remove it instantly from other distributors, it takes a number of days for the books to be removed so one needs to be careful not to run into trouble with the rules.

The writing was good. I liked the overall tone and feel for the book. Coker has a way of coming off very helpful and conveys each tip in very simple easy to understand concepts. I liked that there are ALOT of examples! You will find information on preordering, blogging, cross promoting, press releases, you name it! It's in here.
I found this book to be very helpful as my journey has already started. I'm eager to put most of these tips and practices into effect. Most of all these tips are simple, yet practical and have yielded effective results for other authors.
I recommend any author taking self-publishing seriously, and that includes marketing their books, to read this book. It is well put together and will hopefully conjur up some other ideas on how to promote your book.
Smashwords tells the reader of the many ways they help their authors and offers 37 tips on how to market an eBook some of them are very creative. The book not only provides very helpful information. It also shows you how to do what it suggests.
Throughout the book Smashwords provides information about itself. It leaves nothing to chance. That in itself is a very useful `do-as-I- do' example to newbies. It shows you how to do it. This book is a handy and useful companion to the Kindle system
He suggests joining various aspects of social media, facebook, twitter, linkedin, and gives examples of marketing methods through them, though he warns marketing shouldn't be over emphasized. At the moment I'd feel guilty in joining one of them because my aim indeed is to stimulate sales of my book.
My concern is if I were to follow all his suggestions and create accounts on facebook and twitter. I'd have no time to write and publish. Joining all those programs of social media certainly would require an inordinate amount of time, of which some of us have precious little. I'm happy just to strike off this review for MC.
I remain convinced, however, his book is an excellent reference piece and I commend him highly for giving it to us. My intentions are to use aspects of it when ever I can and I recommend it to all authors. Even readers who are not authors or would be authors would find it useful.
