About Smith Ellis
Smith Ellis is the author of The Barrier, a sci-fi novella adventure.
Born in 1973, I'm currently an old guy. I have a degree in English, but a professional background in IT. A father of three, I haven't slept properly in over ten years. I'm kept alive by coffee.
I have a problem; I'm a polymath. My interests are diverse and sometimes silly.
After about 25 years of procrastinating, I've started self-publishing books. Over the next two years I will release several sci-fi books, and maybe a handful of of regular fiction books. I love deep and meaningful, but I also like action and adventure - I hope I can provide you with a little of both.
I've enjoyed books by J. D. Salinger, Douglas Adams, Asimov and Kurt Vonnegut....among others.
Yes, Smith Ellis. That's two first names.

Blog postEarlier this year I was interviewed about The Barrier, my sci-fi novella that is currently selling on Amazon. I did my best to provide thoughtful answers; check it out if you have a minute.
I appreciate Chris Morton finding me and the writing interesting enough to chat about.
Check out the interview here, at New Adventures In Sci-Fi.

Blog postNot the actual book cover. But, ya know. The Kingdom Calls is the next thing I’ll be publishing. Now that The Barrier is live and out of my hands at Amazon, I’m working hard to get this one done. I’ve found that speaking and mentioning my goals to others helps me stay honest, so here is the plan moving forward.
Sometime in July, I’d like to publish my first full sized novel – The Kingdom Calls. It’s about a man who is being abducted by aliens at night. He decides he’s had enough, and3 years ago Read more -
Blog postThe Barrier Is Now On Sale At Amazon The Barrier is now live over on Amazon. I’m nervous and excited about the story being out there.
The release of this story is a “moment” for me. It’s a proof of viability for me as a writer. Maybe, just maybe, I could be an author. And every time I write something new – maybe that will be the story that you all can’t put down.
I’m learning every day. Thank you all for your support.

Blog postI’m talking about The Barrier by Smith Ellis, of course.
Ok, so, maybe that’s a stretch. The best sci-fi book on Kindle is probably Dune. Or…anything by Asimov, Heinlein, etc. But maybe, just maybe, you can give The Barrier a try?
I think you’ll like my novella, even if you compare it to the best sci-fi on Kindle. It has everything most sci-fi fans want.
A vision of the future? Check.AI? Check.Cool fights? Check.Robots? Check.Evil henchmen? Check. But that’s not all. I3 years ago Read more -

Blog postHello everyone!
In the past few months I’ve been working hard to get a few books completed and published on the Kindle store. The Barrier is the very first one out the door.
The Barrier is a novella. It should be a pretty quick read, between 4-6 hours for the average reader. It sets up the world that our protagonists live in; a world where the “the final war” (is there ever a final war?) has happened, and humanity is rebuilding. But the story I’m telling isn’t the story of th3 years ago Read more
