I feel I owe it to this flashlight to say more positive things about it, given my more extensive experience. Get it, can't go wrong. I have the M&P 12 and the Solstar rechargeable, but this is my goto by far.
The battery life is phenomenal, and AA's so cheap. The M&P 12 eats the expensive CR123 batteries, the Solstar needs constant recharge, but this one just keeps going and going. I have not changed the batteries since I got it months ago and I use it every day. Only changed the batteries today because I inadvertently left it on for 7 hours in a bag.
This has become my goto flashlight. THe M&P 12 eats battery, did not get much use of it and the battery died, but this one keeps going and going.
Great light but the holster sucks, as many have mentioned. I bought this to supplement the 875 lumens S&W M&P 12 flashlight.
My old incandescent 2 AA's Maglite failed--the batteries corroded and I could not get them out. Called and wrote Maglite for a fix but they didn't even bother to reply--time to get a new flashlight and a new brand--I would have gotten another Maglite if they had responded--so I wrote Maglite off--there are so many other options now. I "discovered" the world of tactical flashlights--I was so blind before. :-)
Read many reviews here on Amazon, especially the negative ones; so hard to chose. Settled on the 875 lumens S&W M&P 12. I was pleased with the performance, but gosh, the batteries are so expensive--$4 plus each at retail and best packaged price @ $2 each--do I need to spend at least $4 to carry an everyday light with only rare usage of its 875 lumens and strobe ability? Nah.
For daily use, the low beam of the M&P 12 is too dim, and the high beam too bright, and certainly do not need the strobe. So I looked for another and found this. The GE-2AA light has only one mode, at 200 lumens, which is plenty bright for most purposes and in between the low and the high of the M&P, but it uses the cheap and plentiful AA's batteries. Thus in combination with the M&P 12, all my needs are met at a combined outlay of $100, at affordable battery costs.
The lifetime warranty is assuring, although these lights seem well-built--solid. My only complaint is the stupid holster, but I won't deduct a star--and I won't discuss it as many have done so--however, it is incomprehensible that they don't address this obvious and clear cut flaw that so many have mentioned. It is like putting cheap tires on a Mercedes.
As all should know, the product is actually made by PowerTech of Collierville, TN, using the S&W name under license. The flashlights are Made in China, at good quality.
I attach a picture comparing the GE 2AA and the M&P 12.
I have dropped it, gotten it wet, and put it through a a ringer of activities and it all holds together perfectly.
The only complaint I would have is that it doesn't have a multi-task portion such as hold light, flash, etc. But to use all you do is hold the button, so I guess you could create your own flash if you really wanted.
CAUTION, when putting it in its holster if it is toward the front of your belt DON'T LOOK DOWN, I always do this like an idiot to make sure its going in all the way (tight fit) and always flash myself because the button is on the bottom.

The clip is attached the wrong way - when clipped, the head is sticking out of the pocket being exposed.
In addition if the "tactical" cap is not turned all way out, then the switch button can be pressed accidentally, shining the beam of light straight up from the pocket.
There are many other small flashlights that have well designed push buttons for less money. I suggest looking elsewhere.
Even the holster is nice. It has a snap button closure instead of velcro, so I won't alert everyone within 100 feet of me whenever I take out the flashlight. And it even has a little pouch on the side for two extra batteries. The light also comes with a lanyard and pocket clip. Both can be removed.
The only downsides I can think of would be the 2-hour battery life, and the twist cap to turn it on and off (with the button for temporary on). A regular switch would have been nice. But all things considered, I really can't complain at this price point, and would definitely recommend this light to my peers.
Since my original review about eight months ago I've been using the same set of batteries, and the light is still going strong. It seems the battery life is more than two hours.
