I believe it is legal in most states, I'm a very small woman and the blade barely goes past my palm, which I know is the legal carry size for New York, or it was last time I checked.
The knife itself is very sturdy in the hand, it's hefty, but not to the point of being bulky. The lock works nicely, no wiggling no jiggling, snaps sturdily into place. There is a screw shaped thumb grip on the blade for ease of opening, and a cutter edge for seat belts in an emergency, which I luckily have not had to test out yet. The glass breaker looks like it would work well too, luckily haven't had to test that out either thank God, and the knife itself is sturdy. I feel confident that it wont open accidentally, or close accidentally, causing injury.
The knife is very sharp, the serrations are lovely and sharpened well. The blade itself is very well crafted, not cheap metal, and you can tell the quality just by holding it in your hand. I wonder why I ever had any other knife.
I use it for almost everything that requires a sharp object now, opening boxes or packages, cutting rope, and I keep it close by just in case an emergency situation ever arises, though of course I pray that never happens. I would suggest that everyone have a first response knife at least in the car, because you never know, and it could save your life. Especially for the price, you cannot deny the usefulness and quality of this product. I love it, if I'm ever going for an other low price knife, I'll be going for another Smith and Wesson. Great product, great price, not that I would expect any less from Smith and Wesson.
I have been surprised at how much I like carrying this knife with me through the day. It's larger than my normal pocket knife, it fits well in my pocket clipped to the top of my pocket and has such a good feel in my hands that I'm going to carry this size around for a few weeks and perhaps make a permanent change. I like that the clip mounting keeps the knife blade pointed down and that the top edge is smooth when in your pocket. If it were the other way around the glass break point would be facing up. One negative is that due to the end the clip is on you do have to turn the knife around in your hand to actually open it once you remove it from your pocket.
The knife has a very solid feel to it. It was a little rough opening and locking in place at first but some spray lube in the main joint easily fixed that. There is also a Torx nut you can adjust the tension with. Opening the blade, it works well and smoothly via the thumb tab. If I flip the blade out firmly it locks very securely. In fact it can be a little difficult to unlock it once flipped out, meaning if I flip it out firmly it takes two hands to unlock it.
4 stars for being a quality sharp knife for a very good price. Not 5 stars because I had to lube it and because it can lock open so tightly that it's difficult to close.
