Independent, sexy heroine following her dreams? Check.
Let me tell you, Holly’s writing is smooth as butta. This chick can come up with 20 ways to say something. She makes me hate my own writing.
But back to the book...
Jenson King is a star. The kind of star who could have his pick of women. He’s also the kind of star whose past keeps him tethered right where he is - in limbo. He’s a mess. Really. He’s lost his house, his wife, his baby. He’s as broken as a condom on your 21st birthday. See what I mean? I suck at writing compared to Holly.
Lindsey is new in town. An aspiring music photographer with a bit of a sad past herself. She has her reasons as to why, when she stumbles upon Jenson, she’s unwilling to simply take advantage of his connections to reach her career goals.
And the more dang time they spend together, I mean ... things happen. Feelings grow. And in a well-written kind of way, too. Will their pasts drive them apart? Or will they find comfort and hope and a new future in each other?
Oh my god, I can’t believe I just ended this review with questions. *****
When these two first meet... It is like oil and vinegar... But the obvious chemistry between these two will keep you devouring this book. The tug and pull relationship between these to is addicting, and the stubbornness to let go is sometimes frustrating. This book will hook you from the start and you will have a hard time putting it down, and you will fall in love with two unlikely pair to not only get their life and careers they want but the love then deserve.
Such a great book! This one is a #MustRead for me!
Jenson King is a bit tortured and rugged. But that's not all he is! He's soulful and incredibly beautiful. I swooned over his sexiness the entire book.
Lindsey Farrar is this smart, beautiful girl! She's not looking for anything serious and definitely not looking to fall for a sexy country singer.
Ah! I loved the dynamic the author created between these two. The way she pulls you in, brings the story and characters to life.
I can't wait to read more by Holly Hall.
Do you hear me? I LOVED IT!
Jenson King is a man with vices. Makers, cigarettes, woman, music, whatever you give the poor broken soul, he’ll take it. He lives for his vices. Mainly his music.
His life as a country music superstar isn’t working for him anymore. So he sets out on a path of destruction. (One we hear about in this book.) After losing a baby, he sets his house on fire, leading to his wife Raven to finally divorce him. Raven knee deep down Jenson didn’t love her as much as his ultimate vices, music and Makers. He let the drinking control every aspect of his life.
In walks Lindsay, all jittery and scared, hiding from someone in Tripp’s. Surprisingly something about her speaks volumes to Jenson. He offers her a ride home, instead she goes to his place to just sleep, they talk a bit before he drunkenly passes out calling her by Raven’s name. She makes him breakfast the next morning and promptly leaves. Leaving him with only her name and her place of employment.
Jenson begins to run into Lindsay whenever he can. Making trips into the cafe she works, just to see her. He even “kidnaps” her for a weekend away so he can write and she can take pictures of him for her portfolio. They’d both get time away from the pressures constantly breathing down their necks.
Their easy-going friendship evolves and soon feelings of love happen. Lindsay flees to truly find herself. Her leaving was the best thing that could’ve happened to Jenson. He gives up his vices. Music with the band, goes away. Solo music with just his guitar, hello. He goes through a doctor assisted detox to say goodbye to Makers.
He becomes the Jenson he was always meant to be. Lindsay becomes who she was always meant to be.
When Jenson let her go to fly and chase her dreams, she realized how much she loved him and vice versa.
My words no matter how hard I try, cannot so justice to the perfectness that is this book.
Thank you Holly, for your beautiful words. You wrote a book about everything I love, music, coffee, lyrics, photographs, forgiveness, open hearts, and friends. Not to mention my favorite city Nashville. Bravo, Holly.
