This is Tosha Miller's debut, and she has given us a kickass heroine in Cat. I love the way the author has made Cat a strong protagonist, who rolls with the punches. Cat conquers her fears and gets the work done. She has wild powers, she is blessed by a Goddess, and she is the only one who matches up to Hendrick a dragon and vampire.
The author Tosha Miller, is intuitive in understanding what works in a fantasy book. From the first page to the last, she doesn't let up in her pace. She hooked me from the get-go and did not allow a moment's rest, she kept me engrossed in her book. I read this from start to finish with just a couple of breaks for sleeping.
There is an absolute joy in the author's style of writing; it is so easily seen in her prose. I loved the action scenes which involved Cat, she is a heroine who doesn't stand back but is always eager to land a punch, my kinda heroine. Cat also has knifes, and she is damn good in handling them. Cat is just poetry in motion.
Cat and Hendrick's attraction is also cute, and their dialogs are flirty and attractive, they provide a little ease and fun even when the world around them is falling apart.
The first book in the series, I had a few niggles; some action sequences could have been written better, and this book ends in a bit of a cliffhanger, so to get to the next book, I have a long wait.
A rollercoaster fantasy ride with a kickass heroine: then it is Tosha Miller's The Smokiest Grave with the coolest heroine Cat, and the hottest hero, Hendrick.
Tosha Miller has created a 'normal' heroine in its uniqueness, because she has extraordinary powers that allow her to solve mysterious cases, but above all Cat, the protagonist, has an extremely human and normal appearance and reactions, in which any young girl reader can identify.
She is a determined woman, capable of reacting, generous, but who does not hesitate to use her hands if necessary. In the fantasy setting, a world divided between rich and powerful men and persecuted people, a metaphor of modern society, Tosha Miller has created a heroine that is an excellent example. The story is well written, fluid, the plot is full of twists, but above all it is not 'tender'. A mix of action, fantasy, horror and magic that keeps the reader glued to the pages. Absolutely recommended.
There is so much action and just a sweet bit of romance. I'm dying to know if Cat will get over her raped past and get the guy! or if they are going to be able to save the world from the blood curse. I can't wait for number two!!!
It covers the love and mystical journey of Cathleen, a highly skilled human and Hendrick, a half vampire and half dragon warrior of the Gods on their quest to save human lives.
This series ended in suspense. I can't wait to read it to the end.
