Deputy Raine McCandless is busy keeping her dog-napping grandfather out of trouble and the family ranch from falling apart by day, and trying not to get bored working in her sleepy town by night. But when a sexy intruder claiming to be an angel warns her she's going to die, Raine starts to wonder if she's going off the deep end. Dillon Taylor isn't exactly an angel--he's a nephilim. He doesn't live by the same rules as angels or humans, but there is on rule he doesn't like to break: never get involved with mortals. But the old man's granddaughter is in trouble, and he finds himself breaking all kinds of rules to not only save her, but to have her.

This was a more erotic read than I was expecting, but by no means was I disappointed. Both main characters were lovable an real. The fantasy element of the book was interesting, especially the love scenes, which still has me teetering between "uh, okay" and "that was hot". The setting and secondary characters were perfect. The writing was smooth, the plot stable, and the conflict solid. My only quirk is after the bank-robbery was solved, the romantic conflict resolution felt rushed, including the "ah ha, I love him" moment. Recommended.

Half small town mystery, half sexual journey with a hot nephilim, Smoking Hot was a fun and sexy read.

Smoking Hot centers around Raine and Dillon, a small town police officer and a nephilim. When Raine's grandfather begins praying for his granddaughter's safety, Dillon is the half-angel who answers. When he meets Raine, not only does Raine answer the prayers, but he also finds a woman he wants for himself. This sets the two off on a sexual tug of war, a struggle for dominance.

Raine is a woman who always wants to be in control, and this woman isn't willing to budge an inch. Knowing that her need for power is holding her back, Dillon sets out to make her submit. The push and pull between them was fun to read about, but my gosh, Raine was frustrating. Call me crazy, but if you have a gorgeous angel man who wants to give you more pleasure than you can imagine, I say go for it! But honestly, the battle was half the fun. Dillon takes some interesting measures to bring Raine's defenses down, most notably at The House of Ecstasy. (Side note: The House of Ecstasy is fan by fairies, who apparently take their pleasure seriously!) Going to the debauch House of Ecstasy forces Raine to see that she can take joy in acts outside of her control. There's even a chocolate pool to swim in, and hot fudge hot tub!

Outside of the intimate portions of Smoking Hot, there was the mystery of who was setting Raine and her grandfather up for bank robbery. I'll admit, this part of the story didn't interest me nearly as much as Raine and Dillon together. And I really liked the turn the story took with them at the end.

If you like a mystery set among a steamy fantasy read, Smoking Hot might get you going.

Raine McCandless left the life of a cop on dangerous patrol in a bad neighborhood of Fort Worth to come home to comatose Randolph, Texas as a Sheriff's Deputy because her Grandpa needed her. After completing the night shift, Raine comes home only to find a Smoking Hot stranger inside waiting for her.

Dillon Taylor claims he is an immortal nephilim hybrid angel-man. He has come to prevent Raine from dying in a robbery that turns ugly. When the bank robbery occurs, her boss suspects Raine and her Grandpa committed the crime. Dillon must find a way to keep the purebred human, who fans the flames of heat inside him, out of prison. Raine realizes she must focus on the investigation but she knows "where there's heat" there's distracting desire.

Smoking Hot is a heated romantic urban fantasy starring two full blooded protagonists and a strong secondary cast. The mystery is clever with fabulous twists and red herrings that will have readers and the heroine wondering who robbed the bank while the romance seemingly has no future. Karen Kelley provides a wonderful tale.

Another good book from Miss Kelley. While I didn't love it as much as the previous two books in this series, it was very enjoyable!
