One thing to keep in mind is that the machine comes with high resistance to begin with, i read on a review that you can request service and they can remove some magnents to make it lighter but still have room to increase resistance. I called service and i know have an appointment for this friday for them to come over and do just that.
The frame is sturdy. The motion is smooth. the size is right for me (I'm 6'3"). It feels stable, and it had a variety of programs to help you out. The touch screen is coated, so you don't sweat it all up, and the weight load and duty load are impressive. I never used it less than an hour a day, five days a week, for 8 months. I often used it more.
As for the bad:
The speakers suck, so do bother unless you have no other choice, because they don't even get conversationally loud. This doesn't bother me too much. I didn't buy it for the speakers.
There is next to no information online about what to do when you have problems, or some documentation for electronics (like how to chose users or even add them for the HRC feature). A tip, to change users for the HRC, press and hold the reset button. I haven't found a way to hard reset the electronics.
Recently, my 8.0LC stopped working, and I'm not particularly thrilled with the service I have gotten so far. I have called 5 times and only gotten any kind of response once, and that was to take the elliptical apart and check harnesses/test things with a multimeter, something I can do, but I didn't pay what I paid to be troubleshooting this machine.
Based on my personal experience with the most important part of a high end purchase, I can't recommend this awesome machine to anyone else (and I wont), no matter how much I love everything else.
We spent two months researching and evaluating which company to get our elliptical from, and in the end it came down to Smooth Fitness. We were won over by their stellar reputation, terrific customer service and quality products with generous warranties. Speaking with our very knowledgeable and courteous sales rep, Rich Pritchard, my wife and I selected the Smooth CE 8.0LC commercial elliptical machine.
By and far, this is the best piece of gym equipment I have ever used. The CE 8.0LC is extremely well built with features galore. My wife and I jokingly call it "The Beast" because while it is a very large and heavy piece of equipment, it is rock steady and whisper quiet. The quality and craftsmanship is second to none, and while it did take over an hour to assemble it, it is very doable to do it yourself.
Having the Smooth CE 8.0LC in our home has made a definite improvement in our lives. My wife and I are healthier, have lost weight, and overall, feel younger and more energized. While we could have settled on a less expensive competitor's model, the old adage of "you get what you pay for" is as accurate today as it has ever been. The Smooth CE 8.0LC is a workhorse, and represents a solid and sound investment for many years to come.
