Ashley Pierce, an NCIS agent who is like a dog with a bone when she believes something and is trying to get to the bottom of an investigation. She is still hung up on the case of Joaquin Cruz. She still doesn't think that the case is closed or that all of the people involved have been arrested or dealt with. She is now investigating the death of United States Navy Officer, Paul Thompson. She doesn't quit believe that he committed suicide.
Mitch and Ashley are reacquainted in Smug after their meeting in Season 1 when Ashley was posing as a stripper named Autumn. Now she has to investigate the death of a Navy Officer and Mitch was the one to find the body. Is he a suspect, should he be, or did he just happen upon the body? Ashely has to fight herself and her feelings for Mitch, while trying to get to the bottom of Paul's death.
I missed a few books in Season 1 and now I have to go back and read them. This story brought back the steaminess of these Navy SEALs and their strength as a team. Ashley will have to work through some things in this series. She is going to find some things that will make her question a lot of her younger life, and she will have to overcome some doubts that she has for those around her. This book is well written and ends with a cliff hanger. It is a short read, but the story will keep you turning the pages to find out what will happen next. I look forward to more in this season to find out the answers to the questions this book left me with.
Ms. Albertson knows how to write about sexy SEALs and steamy scenes. I have read a few of her books and have never been disappointed. I look forward to reading more. I give this story a 4.5 star review and can't wait until the next book with Mitch, Ashley, Grant, and Mia.
I loved Gabe and Mia's story so I had high expectations for this book. It's hard to compare the two though, because I'd read Gabe and Mia's story all at once rather than in installments. I thought this was a pretty good start to the 2nd season, though I'm interested to see how the story plays out (which, I guess, is the point of the cliffhanger!).
This story is about Mitch, a divorced playboy Seal with two kids whom he doesn't get to see very often because his ex took them to live in Vegas, and Ashley, an all-work, no-play NCIS officer. The story is not very long so it jumps right in to the action from the beginning and keeps going all the way to the end. Ashley and Mitch had met in the first season books, but hadn't seen each other since then until a Seal is found dead of suspected suicide on base and Ashley is called in to investigate. She suspects foul play - even considering Mitch as one of the suspects because he was the first to find Paul. Mitch is looking for someone to spend his life with, someone who understands the demands of him being a Seal after his wife would cheat on him during deployments. He feels that person is Ashley and will do anything to make her his, but will her investigation get in the way of their possible happiness?
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
For this book, "Smug", we get our two main characters to focus on: our Seal Mitch Martinez- who is a divorced father of two young children and our NCIS Agent Ashley Pierce. She is investigating the death -an apparent suicide but she has her suspicions that it isn't- of Mitch's Seal teammate Paul Thompson. The story takes off rapid fire from there- everything from Mitch and Ashley's attraction to each other, to Ashley's theories of what really happened to Paul, to who was involved with whom both with the death, the kidnapping of her sister, and the questions go on and the suspects run deep into both of their worlds. This is a quick read and ends before much is discovered. We are only given a taste of what is to come, but just like the first series of Seven Deadly Seals: Season 1 (there were multiple books released over time: Conceit, Crave, etc. that can now be purchased as one book called Season 1)- I will be patiently waiting for the next book to arrive.
I received an advanced reader copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving my honest review.
