I bought this for my 8 year old nephew and he LOVED it! I have since added other Snap Circuit kits to his collection, and these are things he uses over and over. He and his Dad have used them with their Scout troop, big hit there as well. I was so impressed that I added the Snap Circuit line as a suggestion for toys on a Christmas list for a charity I work with, and many members of the group purchased them for an orphanage in Africa where there are many older kids. They were delivered at Christmas and our representatives showed the workers how to use them. I was thrilled recently to receive a video of the kids (and the adult workers there!) just having a ball with them! The huge smiles, laughter and eyes wide with wonder were amazing to watch! One of their favorites is the Snap Circuits Musical Recorder, they received several, and the kids fight over this one! They provide a very unique learning experience for the kids there who otherwise would not have a chance to see how these kinds of things work. Very, very highly recommended!

My autistic then 10 year old played with this and absolutely loves it. My husband said he used to have a radio shack version similar but made out of cardboard when he was a kid. This plastic set is a wee bit fragile so some care does need to be taken about that.
We have since wowed 2 classes at school with this and he used it in a science fair and the 6 year old has even put it together.
It is quite the hit at our house!
I like it over the larger kits because it is smaller (less pieces to loose/break) and is a pretty quick gratification (goes together fairly quickly).
It is well worth the money but is a gateway drug to wanting the larger kits (but that is what grandparents and santa are for!).

my bright 8 yr old was very excited and was able to put the flying saucer project together by himself. He did the two other projects also. he then quickly lost interest. he wanted the bigger package where he could do much more projects. i should have bought him the sc-300 or at least the sc-100 package because that includes the flying saucer also and many more projects. this pkg does not get you the biggest bang for the buck.

$10 bucks and free shipping - it is worth buying.

Easy to assemble, the educational value is overrated though, it snaps together in a durable way but I'm not sure it taught my 8 year old much about the flow of electricity unless I were to get out the whiteboard and explain it further.

It works very well. If you set it on the ground and let the flyin saucer go, it will hit the ceiling easily. I never took it outside but I estimate it would fly around 10' high on each and every launch.

Other reviewers are right, it does seem to get old. But, we tried tilting it sideways and shooting it into a bucket, and he uses it as a "base" that his action figures must protect before the launch is made, etc. It, alone, is quite boring but encourage them to use their imagination and it will become one of their most favorite toys for around $10.

I recommend it.

I own 3 snap circuit kits - Extreme, 300, and Lights. I got this little mini kit, so my son would have something fun to play with in his room and stop bringing up the other kits and getting pieces everywhere. This is hands down the most fun circuit in all the kits. The price is reasonable. And it is a great little test/intro kit to see if you child could get into snap circuits before spending the money on the bigger kits. It comes with what you see in the picture - a small 5x7 snap board, a motor, a fan blade, a 3-snap wire, a button switch, and a battery holder that needs 3 AA batteries. It also comes with a piece of paper with 4 circuit variations on it. This is officially on my list for toys to get for boys for the birthday. My son is 4 years old, by the way. His little sister who is not even 2 figured out how to position the fan blade atop the motor and loves to play it. It works like this, push the button switch to get the motor going, once released the fan blade flies straight up off the motor almost hitting the ceiling. It's fun, and we have done lots of circuits around here.

This is a winner! Simple and lots of fun. Boys (8&9) take turns trying to make it fly higher. With fresh batteries, this thing really soars. This is one they keep coming back to. Purchased another for class gift exchange, and at $12.77, was a really good deal. Santa now bringing the bigger Snap Circuits Jr. set.

My 10 year old loved this..........he especially liked the capacity to do different things with this, and has played it multiple times between yesterday and today. He is pretty bright, and was not bored with it at all!

This was purchased as a gift. My 10 year old son loves putting things together and this has been a hit with his friends when they come over too. All parts were there, easy enough that he could figure it out on his own, but challenging enough to make him really enjoy it and ask questions (thanks google for answering some of the tough ones for me!). Snap circuits are a great inexpensive and educational yet still fun gift.
