So after opening them up I found that when the box isn't made it can be folded down into a really small size, which would be nice if I would ever want to undo them and store them away. The boxes themselves have little snap on pieces that snap together, so I see why people might say they come undone. Making the boxes took around 1 minute per box and was really easy since you just snap them together. The box itself I thought looked really high end, and has chrome on it, and it looks like its made of leather.
So I went ahead and put my games in it and found that if you put them in going from the front of the box to the back of the box and make one big row you can fit 26 dvd's/games, but if you go from the side of the box to the other side and make two rows, you only fit 24. The games all fit perfectly and for my Blu-ray ones there was a little room on the ends but if you fill the box up they shouldn't slide around. Also I had a few bigger collectors edition games and they fit just fine except you cant really fit all that many obviously.
Finally I decided to test the carrying around and sliding to see if the snaps would pop off and spill my games everywhere. I found that the boxes held together perfectly, so I don't know what other people are doing that theirs come undone but I felt you would have to be extremely rough with them in order for that to happen. So no you don't need super glue, or have to worry about your games spilling out unless you plan on being extremely careless with these.
Overall I thought these were really well built and look fancy. They are great storage containers for anything really. I found that you can stack them at least 6 high ( I also read reviews claiming you cant stack them that high) , and the box on the bottom doesn't appear to be bending or have any stress on it, and the stack isn't leaning or anything. I cant recommend these enough and I went and bought 4 more after the first two.
Made our own tab dividers as the ones online look too tall for these boxes. Just cut an 8.5x11 cardboard stock into quarters and add a label. Perfect fit.
Found these originally at Kmart as they were going out of business and needed to find a new way to store/display my games (DVD cases) on my new TV stand as there was no storage. Picked the last 2 they had on a whim and figured I could always find a use for them. To my surprise they are absolutely perfect for what I needed them for and what is also great is due to my tv stand being glass the leathery material keeps them from sliding around.
After setting up the 2 I had I went on a desperate hunt to find a 3rd to complete the look (I'm a tad OCD.) To my surprise they were worth more than I thought, picking them up at a steal at $6.15 each on clearance at Kmart. After many weeks browsing around I finally caved and spent the $14 on amazon because prime shipping was available and it could potentially be 2 though I only needed the one. Luckily it was 2, so I'll find a good use for that second one.
Depending on your plans with it your response could greatly differ. However, to simply display my video games in a safe and stylish way lining my TV stand these worked perfectly - I even set them inside the lid to give a lip to hold controllers and memory cards etc which is a complete bonus as I no longer have to worry about tangling cords or losing those stupid PS2 memory cards. I've never been excited over something as stupid as a DVD case but it's exciting to have something not only function as intended but go above and beyond what you expected.
As an alternative, I tried placing them in the box at right angles to what is shown. I could get only get 44 per box with room to spare at either end. There were no alphbetical tabs as shown.
I tried removing the center provider to see if two parallel rowes of CD's in full jewel cases could be accomodated like the picture. Not a chance.
Avoid this product. A worthless purchase for me.
