I have read many books by this author and I have to say this one is my favorite. It was written around the lives of Cayuga Cougars hockey players and their friends and family. This is Mario and Lila’s book. The flow is good, and I loved this plot.
Mario is a bi-sexual hockey player and he was raised in the church and travels back and forth between Cayuga and Scranton to meet up with the love of his life Lila. He is comfortable in his own skin and doesn’t care what people think. And damn the man can wear a kilt. Lila is a transgender woman and I loved her to the moon and back. She is a soft-spoken woman but do not make a mess in her home and she will hit you where it hurts. There is no question of their love for one another. I loved how she would not curse, was all woman, has a huge heart and she was just everything Mario wanted or needed. Lila likes to call him Seamus, his middle name. When the past meets the present there are some bumps in the road in the name of Langley. They aren’t really too bad, though.
Again this book was fast and a truly easy read. I enjoyed every second of it and look forward to the next book in this series.
Mario is a sexy,kilt-wearing, loyal, hockey player. He is in love with Madam Lila, a transgender woman. His heart is torn between home in Cayuga and his love in Scranton. Their relationship is solid until Lila drops a bomb. A bomb that is a 16-year-old boy named Langley that he fathered when he was in college and before he became Lila.
I simply loved this story. It was full of great character both new and old. We get Lila and Mario's story which is sweet and amazing and super sexy. We meet Lila's son Langley which was a troubled teen, and man is he trouble and a cutie! And we meet August a new goalie, and I hope we get his story next because I want it now. We also get a couple of cameos with Victor and Dan. If you haven't met them, read the Point Shot trilogy. It's three books in one box set and reasonably priced. It is also where we first meet Lila and Mario.
The story line is intriguing and sexy and keeps you turning the page, and the sex is scorching!
If you like stories with transgender characters, bisexual men, troubled teens, hot characters, some hockey actions and hot sex!
Marco and Lila don’t live close but Marco makes that three hour drive to see his lady, especially when he’s hurt and needs her. Or when he’s lonely. Or when he just, you know, needs her. She’s his special everything and he’s her Seamus. So it is with some trepidation he finds out that in her long ago past that she rarely speaks of, the “Lost Years” as she calls them, there was a little secret. Namely, Lila has a son and he’s troubled and coming to live with her. Yikes.
There’s so much for Marco to deal with – the addition of a teenage son into their fairly new relationship, soul searching about his hockey future and the one that made me saddest, his realization about his faith, something so important to him. Honestly, when he was talking to the priest, who was kind if confused, I just wanted to hug Marco.
There’s also the issue of the new goalie on the Cougars, August. He’s adorable, young and a “…a six foot tall mound of rosy skin and garbled replies.” I liked August so much. “You ever been with a man?” “Mumble mumble mumble mumble.” Yep, we get it, August.
Marco may think he’s not parent material but he’d be dead wrong. He’s got his own way of dealing with it, sometimes different than Lila’s (and sometimes I thought she was in the wrong) but effective nonetheless. I’d recommend this book, angst free and funny.
They are already a couple in this book and the main story is about them trying to make a relationship work, as Lila lives in New Jersey and when he's not traveling with the team, Mario is in NY. There's also the complication of Lila's teenage son who comes to live with her when his grandmother has some difficulty.
Lila is MtF trans, and seems to be comfortable with her body, and I like that Mario accepts both the male and female parts. They seem to have a good relationship and sex life.
Overall, I enjoyed this, but since they are an established couple I would have liked some background on how they met and became a couple.
*ARC from author
I loved the two of them together. It was clear they deeply cared about one another. Even when an unexpected surprise shows up in their lives, Mario puts aside his hesitation about it and jumps right in to give Lila the support she needed.
The characters are well written and you can't help but root for them and hope that everything works out for them.
