I got completely caught up in the Tracers series, I honestly can't get enough. However, I read them randomly, but it might be easier to connect with characters if it would have been done right the first time. So my recommendation is to start with Tracers series (trilogy) if you want to get to know the main characters, but if you don't want to read all 3 books, the Unforgivable will give you the background of Sophie and Jonah's relationship. They go back one season, when Jonah's sharp instincts saved Sophie from being the next victim of a sadistic killer. Sophie's life after this event changed drastically, she no longer pursued her singing career, but rather stayed in the shadows. Despite this trauma, she remains strong, and decides to enroll into afternoon classes and make something more of life than answering phones at the reception desk. Her sharp mind and fearless nature, combined with stubborness and sexy looks has been hard to resist for Jonah, who is struggling to solve the campus shooting case and get to terms with his feelings for her, which have been building upever since that harrowing winter event. I love the fact that both characters started unveiling before this book. I remember the first time I read Snapped, it was a bit hard to grasp the level of their friendship. The chemistry was there, but their mutual history was missing.
And speaking of chemistry, you'll get plenty of it - what else can you expect from a 6ft4 badass sniper trained cop and a smart, headstrong, 5.11 leggy bombshell? Yeah, you guessed it. :)
I would, however, like to see the ballistics guy, Scott Black, to get his own story. He's good material: ex SEAL, 6f4 of pure muscle, expert in ballistics, works at renowned Delphy center... Well, I can think of a few scenarios for an intriguing plot with him as the main character. But that's just me and I dream a lot.
We first meet meet Sophie in "Untraceable" and Jonah in "Unforgiveable" and I was very pleased that they finally were able to tell their story. It is a good one with lots of fireworks, suspense and well thought out details (since it is loosely based on a school shooting which happened in the 1960's).
As with her other works, the most compelling thing for me are her characters; they are well actualized and (it seems to me) could step right off the page. I also always learn something new about the process of collecting and processing evidence (specifically DNA evidence) for use in court.
I don't want to spoil anyone's read so not many details other than "Snapped" holds together very well, Ms. Griffin takes us from the shooting through many twists and turns; Sophie is a witness but what has she really seen?, Jonah is her reluctant protector -- only because he is attracted to her, we get to visit with some favorite recurring characters and meet some new ones!
Run don't walk, you wont want to miss this one!! 5 stars!
