These feel quite hefty in your hand, they're sharp and the bits actually fit the countersink sleeves! I mention this because many of the bits on others I have owned are noticeably small for the sleeve hole and therefore are never properly centered and make poorly sized and shaped holes.
I really like the substantial size and clean machining of the set screw system. They're easy to loosen and they tighten back up easily after you adjust drill depth, and then they stay where you put them no matter how many holes you drill, whether it's in softwood or hardwood.
This design uses two chamfered flutes, so I get the best results when I keep my drill speed on the high side and take my time completing the cut. (That last bit of advice applies to most of what I do with power tools - take my time and let the tool do the work.)
And they're made in the USA to boot.
If you're in the market for a set of countersinks, I recommend you spend a couple extra bucks and get these. The old saying is true that quality is the best value.
I am just a Weekend Warrior, but I find myself using these bits multiple times per week. For my woodworking projects, the ability to quick-change back and forth from these bits to my Philips bit saves me a lot of time. In the past, I was using both a drill and a driver for projects. Not only that, but I was using a stand-alone countersink drill bit, plus the standard drill bits to pre-drill. What a waste of time.
None of my bits have broken over 6 months of use. With the 5 different sizes, I find that I am easily able to meet my pre-drilling needs for projects. As far as I can tell, they do not need to be sharpened yet, as they are drilling in with ease in my Impact Driver.
These were priced at about $20 when I bought them last summer. As of today, they are at $31, which seems steep.
1. The engraving of the bit size could be better/more readable
2. A plastic case of some kind would be nice. I don't want these nice bits rolling around in my toolbox and getting lost/separated.
I would highly recommend buying these. Great price, best quality.
You can countersink just enough for the head of the screw, or go deeper into the wood without a problem. That's very important to note, as there are other designs which "force" you to countersink the head way deeper than just the surface level.
The countersink metal is extremely durable, I even tried drilling one to fit a slightly larger drill and failed.
