About the Author
Alison Nguyen received her BA of Science from Temple University and received her Master's in Distance Learning from University of Phoenix. She has an additional 60 credits, at the Master's level, dealing with various areas of the educational field. She also received training in PECS and sign language. While attending school for her BA of Science, she was a one on one teacher for autistic children through the Bucks County Intermediate Unit #22 and utilized the Discrete Trial Training method and applied behavior analysis. When one child aged out of the Bucks County Intermediate Unit #22's program, she continued with the child and became the case manager. As the case manager, she was responsible for designing and implementing a program, using the Discrete Trial Training method, which would complement what he was learning at school. After receiving her BA of Science from Temple University, Alison became a special education teacher for the School District of Philadelphia in March 2002. From 2007 to the present, she is the multiple disabilities teacher for sixth, seventh, and eighth grade. While teaching in the multiple disabilities setting, there were no instructional programs that met the needs of all of her students. She became convinced that, with the right instruction, her students could learn to read and learn simple mathematical concepts. For the next six years, she experimented with different methods and ideas until she found one that enabled her students to learn how to read and simple mathematical concepts. In addition, she wrote 31 books to aid her students' learning. Thus, in 2013, D E T M A R (tm) was born. She is now creating novels to demonstrate social interactions for those who have difficulties in social situations.
