Snoppa was started through a common passion for videography. Most of our team came together through the drone community, we love the freedom drones give us in taking video and the professional look they bring to our footage. We wanted to share our passion for videography and allow anyone to achieve that quality of professionalism we generally only see in movies and on TV.
We have a major passion for video. Everyone the world over already loves to take photos and selfies, but we believe that video can capture more. We hope that we can make professional quality video more accessible to everyone. There are many special moments in all of our lives capture it through video not just photos.
Why we invented the Snoppa M1
We love taking video, but hate missing the moment because of shaky or blurry footage or bulky setup. We tried many other stabilizers in the market but felt they lacked in key areas. Existing stabilizers were not intuitive, were inconvenient to carry around, and take a lot of time to setup and balance before each use, making it very hard to capture those moments that catch you by surprise. We took it upon ourselves to solve these problems and the M1 is the result of our efforts.
To get you up and running quickly...here is how to set up your new Snoppa M1 Unit
Things to do upon receiving your unit: (expect less than 10 minutes to setup once unit is fully charged)
Open the box, you will find a charging cable, a spare weight, the manual and the M1. Take out the Snoppa M1 , pull open the handle (this is the botton portion of the unit that you will hold while filming) to expose the mini USB port and plug it in to charge it. While it is charging it is a good idea to read the manual and watch some how to videos as well as download the app to the phone you are going to use for taking video.
Once the M1 is fully charged, close it completely, set it down and open the Snoppa App on your phone. Now connect your phone to the M1 via bluetooth through the app by pressing the power button on the M1 (it will blink ) and in the app tapping the "gear" icon which is the settings icon, and select "bluetooth settings". The app will search for your new unit and in in the device list. Your Snoppa with have a unique identifier, tap on your device in the list and enter the default pairing code of "00000" (five zeros) and it will connect.
Once paired tap back to settings. At this time it will ask you to upgrade the firmware if needed...just follow the promts. Then move on to the last preperation step which is calibration.
From the Settings menu ("gear" icon ) choose gimbal settings and within that menu tap and follow the directions for "Drift Calibration" once complete do the same for "level" calibration.
If at ANY time during or after setup you have any questions...or you are unsure of anything...or your experience is anything less than pleasant and easy PLEASE reach out to us and we can walk you through it. We will make sure that your time with your Snoppa is fun and easy.
Once your M1 is set up and you become familiar with the features, you can go from pocket or bag to video in about 5 seconds.
Now that your unit is set up...First use steps and exert Tips
Lets start with the app closed and your M1 off.
Press the power button on your M1, it will blink, then open the app. Fold open the holder, then press until it clicks so that it is straight up and down with the "handle". Now follow the instruction on your screen to position your phone within the holder. Since we already paired the M1 to your phone in the first steps, you should see "bluetooth connected" appear on the screen within a few seconds.
With you phone positioned as shown in the picture on the left, now just pull the handle out, let the counterbalance swing out, and once you have the handle at at least a 45 degree angle to the holder, the M1 will begin to stabolize. Please note that you should guide the phone and holder to your desired starting position when you open the handle. You will feel a vibration feedback when the M1 kicks in and you can then let go. Again, if you have ANY questions...please reach out and we will walk you through it.
Now that you have your phone in position and the unit is opperation, you can use the "star" icon in the lower left hand corner to swith modes. There is "Pan" mode which will keep the up and down motions limited and allow smooth side to side panning, "Omni" mode, which allows changes in filming both side to side and up and down, and "lock" mode which will keep the phone in the same direction up and down and side to side. You can cycle through these modes to get a feel for them. Each will have its place in your video creation.
Expert Tip: Using the M1 with your phone's vidoe App ( without the Snoppa App)
Once you are used to the funtions of the M1 and the three modes of stabolization...you can take video quickly from closed position without the app. After the initial setup, this mode is quick and allows you to take advantage of your native phone's app for video.
To start, with the M1 off and your Snoppa App Closed...
Press and let go of the power button on your M1. Once blinkng starts press and hold it down until it turns green, then let go. Unfold and click the holder into place. Install your phone in the holder as you normally would. Pull open the handle while pointing the phone in your desires starting position...wait for the vibration feedback from the M1, and you can let go...you are up and running.
To change modes you simply press and release the power button once. You can cycle through the 3 modes that way, Pan...Omni...and Lock.
Expert Tip: Changing shooting Angles
To engage portrait mode on your M1 while shooting video, simply grab the top of the phone mount with your off-hand and rotate your phone to the portrait position while bringing the handle directly under the tilt axis so that the device is completely vertical in your hand. Hold the device in that position for a second and your M1 will give a slight vibration to indicate it has changed to portrait mode.
To return to horizontal mode simple raise the handle so the pan axis is above 45 ° and the device will automatically rotate back to horizontal mode.
To engage underslung mode on your M1 while shooting video, simply grab the top of the phone mount with your off-hand and rotate your phone so that is upside down from the horizontal position. Hold your phone in that position for a second and your M1 will give a slight vibration to indicate that it has changed to underslung mode. Once you let go the device will automatically readjust the tilt angle so that it is facing slightly up. The tilt angle can be adjusted by grabbing the tilt axis and gently moving it to the desired angle.
To return to horizontal mode simple reverse the steps and rotate the phone by hand back horizontally.
Changing the Tilt Angle
While in any shooting or follow mode, you can adjust the tilt angle by grabbing your phone with your off-hand and gently adjusting the tilt to the desired angle and holding it there for 1 second. The device will give a slight vibration to indicate that it has adjusted the tilt angle.
Lock Mode Facing
While your M1 device is in Lock mode you can change the camera’s facing by grabbing your phone with your off-hand and rotating it to the desired facing and holding it for 1 second. The device will give a slight vibration to indicate that it has adjusted the tilt angle.
NOTE if you try to do this in Pan or Omni mode you will hear a beep and the unit will protect itself by going into sleep mode. No real problem here, just put the counter balance back in line with the hande, as if you were going to close it, but then just start over with swinging out the handle and holding your phone where you would like it to start until you feel the feedback. Bam...up and running again.
The M1 is NOT dellicate, it does what it is supposed to everytime, consitantly and efficiently, once you are used to working with it, it will NOT let you down.
Should you need any help for any reason, again, please reach out to us and we will be able to share our understanding and expertise in using the Snoppa M1 and help you make best vidoes of your life! That is our goal and our passion.
Intuitive No Joystick Aiming * 5 seconds to action * Take it anywhere and everywhere
Unique 3 axis system – The M1’s unique 3-axis system removes the need for a joystick, just point your arm in the direction you want to take video and the camera will follow. Don’t miss anything because of a slow pan through joystick controls like on other gimbals.
Never miss a memory – Ready to go in seconds. There are no troublesome mounting or balancing steps to worry about. Once connected to Bluetooth your M1 will stay on standby all the time, and turn on automatically as soon as you need it.
Durability & Portability:
Throw your M1 into your bag or pocket without worry of damaging or breaking it. The M1 folds and closes up to maximize portability and doesn’t need a huge carrying case to keep it in.

I will be using it with an iPhone 8+ which weighs in at 7.4 ounces. It seemed a little heavy but the SNOPPA functioned as promissed during my testing as documented in this video.
NOTE: A fair amount of "jiggling" was noticed in the recordings made as I walked. The iPhone's wide angle lens has "Optical Image Stabilization" which saved the day. The iPhones zoom lens is NOT stabilized so be aware of that.
These video clips were taken during my testing.
UPDATE: February 7, 2018.... I just picked up the SNOPPA and the clip broke off! The picture shows the underside of a piece of black tape that was covering a brass piece. I'm wondering if the clip might have been cracked all along causing the "jiggles". Now I get to see how responsive SNOPPA support is...
UPDATE 2: February 7, 2018.... someone told me to send info to firstname.lastname@example.org and within 1/2 hour notice arrived that a replacement was on the way. Amazingly responsive service! Thank you SNOPPA!
-Best if used without a phone case. Anything thicker than a generic gel phone case will not work optimally with the gimbal as the phone can slip or pop out. I like to keep my phone in great condition and taking off my phone case to use the gimbal can be annoying. (I like to record with my moment gear and this gimbal basically doesn't allow me to).
-I may have had a defective product, but the "underslung" mode does not work on my gimbal. I've already tried recalibrating my gimbal and nothing has worked.
-The app for Snoppa M1 is terrible. The video recording software is outdated and does not provide many recording options. The only thing it can be useful for is switching between modes on your gimbal. Your built-in phone camera app is better.
-Connecting the app and the gimbal is a pain. Again, I may have gotten a defective product but the app glitches and kicks me out from time to time, and most of the times it just doesn't even connect at all.
-I really love the minimalist design. It's compact and light enough to really take with you on any trip.
-Easy to use. Aside from its terrible software (I recommend not even using the app), it is a plug-and-play gimbal with an easy learning curve and very straight forward functions.
-Unlike most gimbals out there, there isn't an "arm" to cover up the charge port on your phone, so you can charge your phone or hook it up to an external mic while using the gimbal.
-The Snoppa M1 has a unique and minimalist design that is easy to use. It is great for travel and for those who record videos casually. The build quality is sturdy even though it's all plastic, and has a nice weight to it. The downfalls, in my experience, is the software and app. It needs to be updated to compete with today's higher-end gimbals. The Snoppa M1 is great for a first gimbal if you are considering one as it's on the cheaper end. For seasoned veterans who do more commercial type videography, consider looking for a more expensive gimbal.
-Lightweight. Travel. Ease of use. Casual.
-I use a Pixel 2 with Moment gear (case + lens).
-I like to shoot videos casually and as a hobbyist, creating "music video" type videos.
-Vlogging type videos.
Well, I am revisiting this earlier experience with the M1...for whatever reason, the mounting clip broke. But the Snoppa folks graciously replaced my gimbal, and I am now able to report success, very good success with the M1 and an iPhone 8+. I charged the M1 battery upon opening the package, performed an auto-calibration for level, and off I went. I had much better luck this time around, and I am looking forward to some extended videos. Thanks Snoppa for restoring my hopes for this little marvel.
I am using an iphone X with a Shure MV88 attached. With the extra weight on one side, I just off centered the phone in the clamp and it seems to compensate well.
