This is a wonderfully imaginative story for children and the beautiful illustrations exactly match the story line.
In Snow Dog. Sand Dog we have a little girl who so very much desires to have a dog of her own. But alas, dogs cause her to go Achoo!! so a dog to play with is simply not in the picture. That is until little Ally begins to draw pictures of her own dogs.
As the seasons cycle, Ally plays out-of-doors with her friends. In snow, they build snowmen. In snow, Allie builds a snow dog which then proceeds to follow her home and play. But all snow dogs melt when the season changes. So then a new dog is needed.
Delightfully written where the child will enjoy as a read-aloud and stay focused. The story flows beautifully. The illustrations are charming, cute, and playfully romping across the pages. Definitely will capture the child's attention. This is most assuredly a "happy" book.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this sweet little book and trekked along through the seasons with Ally and her seasonal dogs - with nary an Achoo!

The other kids tell her there’s no such thing as a snow dog, yet Snow Dog follows her home: “He sat by the freezer instead of the fire.” They tell her there is no such thing as a dog made of flowers. Yet Flower Dog follows her home: “He plopped on a planter instead of a rug.”
Each season offers Ally a chance to make a new dog from nature’s bounty. The repetitive pattern of the words and the kid-like watercolor, pastel and colored pencil art are a perfect match. This engaging story will appeal to anyone who loves dogs, even if dogs don't make them ACHOO.

The storyline is imaginative and the art is very cute. The four dogs each have a distinctive look, and compliment the seasons they represent.
Ms. Singleton's story is a delight.
