I found myself really enjoying it because the setting was not just romantic, but really interesting as well. The storyline is basically a 'Cinderella scenario' and follows the two main characters as they fall in love during a holiday in a snowy retreat in Switzerland. I liked the female character but would have liked a little more detail about 'Mark', just as a way of knowing him better and to completely cement his place in the story.
A lovely read though at just the right length for me. I also liked the way the book was paced which was not too fast, even though the story wasn't novel length.
With the ending, I would have liked a bit more impact, but the best thing was that it left the door open for these two having another romantic getaway somewhere... yes, that is a hint for more please because I liked the way this story was written.
Thank you Sarah Aubree for a lovely afternoon read.
Author Sarah Aubree has taken great care to write delightful dialog and to paint scenes of the various settings so vividly that I could see, hear and feel them. A+ for crisp, clean writing that's fun and fast to read. Another A+ for spelling and grammar; but if you're American-born, realize that the author is a Brit and has used a few "foreign" expressions. Even if you don't know what they mean, please accept them as part of the charm. I did and I learned some fun things. For example, "kitted" is not a typo for "fitted."
I so liked Robin because she's such an ordinary but bright 50-something woman with a kind and humble soul. The story is sprinkled with wit and so is Robin's clever dialog. I absolutely loved the banter between Robin and Mark, the lover-in-waiting. He too is amusing, charming, and definitely a cut above. The ending left me satisfied but I want to see more from this author. This book kept me absorbed and I'm actually sorry to have finished it, like after the dessert is all gone. Highly recommended.
I responded to the attractive cover and liked the sound of this story so I thought I'd try it, especially at only $0.99.
I read Liz Byrnski, Susan Duncan, and Alexander Mccall Smith. 'Snow Fall' is of course much shorter than these full-length novels, but I was pleasantly surprised; it's quick to read but not glib.
Robin needs a break from her daily life and when she's given one, it becomes an adventure with its own ups and downs. we could all do with a friend like Sue!
It's a gentle and sensitive tale, told with heart and good humor and often made me smile.
