The first problem I have is with the cover--is Ryan, the sheriff, on the right? If so, he looks too metrosexual for the way he has been described throughout the series--six-foot-five, bulked up, with just the hint of a soft belly (which Jordan adores). I can picture Jordan to be somewhat like the guy on the left, so that helps. I know I am a stickler for this kind of thing, but sometimes I wish that illustrators would have to read the book closely to get what the characters look like--this is unfortunate because each of the other three covers is spot on.
No matter. This is really a terrific romance. Ryan and Jordan are complete opposites, each has spotted the other one instantly as bed prey, and the way they initiate, consummate, consume and conclude their attraction is artful and steamy and delightful.
The plot is there but it really doesn't pin itself to their situation as much as it brings to a somewhat satisfying end to the nightmares that Adam and Justin are still suffering from their abduction and eventual returns to Crooked Tree in the second and third books. I feel that the book went a bit too densely into how they confronted each other, and why, and how it came to an end. Just my opinion, deduct a quarter star.
So that leaves us with 4 1/2 stars, which is what I give the overall romance here. Nice series, some hair raising episodes, lots of scintillation, and for the most part, real people.
I highly recommend this story...the entire Crooked Tree series actually. So give yourselves a Merry Christmas and buy this book and the others if you don't already own them.
Jordan is an actor that comes to Crooked Tree Ranch to film a movie about Christmas of course and Sheriff Ryan is advising somewhat. Mainly he is just there because he has a super crush on Jordan. Yes, this is another great love story by RJ and you will totally enjoy it!
