When this movie ended, my husband turned to me and asked “Was this originally an artsy Norwegian film and this is the badly-done remake? I think something got lost in translation.” Neither of us were familiar with the Jo Nesbø book series, and I think that might have (possibly?) made a world of difference in watching this adaptation. As it is, this seemed like a big waste of talent and time for all those involved, including the viewer.
The movie trailer is completely misleading, so don't expect to get what they're showing and suggesting in that brief teaser. Makes me wonder if there was a ton of footage that simply ended up on the cutting-room floor in an attempt to make this film watchable. There are numerous characters and story points that seem very out of place to the plot, I suppose that could be the director's way of throwing out red herrings just to throw us off the trail of what's really going on. I did initiialy feel sympathy for the actors, who seemed to be putting in their best effort: but by the finish, I was rooting for death for all of them.
