This show had me on the edge of my seat for most of the season. There is palpable tension at certain times that really makes you question what will happen next. The concept is great and the characters are complex. The characters' personalities aren't one dimensional, they aren't ONLY bad or ONLY good. You can understand their motives and whether or not you agree with their decisions, it isn't that difficult to step into their shoes and see what might have led them to do something. The more episodes you watch, the more you get sucked into the storyline and you uncover more and more about the characters in this train. I love that we get to know the train and most of the people on the train from Layton's perspective because everything is as new to us, the viewers, as it is to him and I think that that is what really makes this show so good. The characters feel real. The setting is unusual and very different from our world now, but the experiences that the characters have in that environment are very real and exist in the real world. This is more than just an action series or detective thriller; it really touches on important themes of class and equality/basic human rights.

Daveed Diggs does a brilliant job as Layton. His facial expressions and body language work so well together in helping you understand who Layton is without needing to spell it out for you. Layton is such an interesting and compelling character. He has his flaws like all humans, but he had strong morals and ethics that he has always stood by. Jennifer Connelly's Melanie Cavill blew me away. It was like peeling apart an onion that didn't want to be peeled (weird analogy but it makes sense). She only shows a bit of actual emotion every once in a while and the more you pick away at the surface and peel a layer off, the more you truly understand who she is as a person.

I highly recommend this show and I am so excited for season 2!

Not sure why these are so expensive as I have tried to find Season 2 at a decent price but I recommend the series over the movie. Even with just the first season the show explains more than the movie and makes it easier to understand over just a struggle to take over the train.
